- Finding
- NHHC DANFS states LST-673 was laid down on 6 April 1944 at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, by American Bridge Co.; launched on 22 May 1944; sponsored by Mrs. J. T. Ellis; and commissioned on 9 June 1944. During World War II it served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the Leyte, Mindoro, Lingayen, Mindanao, and Balikpapan operations. It performed occupation duty in the Far East until early March 1946, was decommissioned on 10 July 1946, struck from the Navy list on 15 August 1946, and sold to Moore Dry Dock Co. for scrapping on 27 October 1947. DANFS states the ship earned four battle stars for World War II service.

- Archived copy of the official NHHC DANFS page; the live NHHC URL returned 404 when checked on 2026-10-02. This history contains no asbestos or material-content information. It does not establish the precise date on which occupation duty ended beyond 'early March 1946.'

[3]U.S. GAO, Navy Efforts To Protect Workers From Asbestos Exposure, HRD-80-2 (published 1979-10-18) [gao]

- Highlights, policy paragraphs; full report PDF
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO reviewed asbestos use in Navy ships and worker-protection efforts at Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards. The report's summary states that the Navy's 1975 policy was to remove and replace damaged asbestos insulation or insulation that had to be removed for repairs; in 1979 the policy expanded to selective replacement in high-maintenance areas.

- Limitations
- Navy-wide program and policy context only. The report does not identify LST-673, its class, its builder, or any material aboard this hull; it supports no ship-specific exposure, asbestos quantity, or remaining-material conclusion. The GAO product page and full report PDF were accessible during this research; no hull-specific asbestos documentation was found in them.

- Limitations
- This is an inventory of log coverage, not the logs themselves. It does not establish any event aboard the ship or any asbestos content. Deck logs for this date range are an archival lead for operational history; the logs were not reviewed for this record.

- Search_ledger entries sl-uss-lst-673-lst673-01 through sl-uss-lst-673-lst673-10
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, or material inventory for USS LST-673 was located in the sources accessible during this research. Ship-specific asbestos documentation remains unknown.

- Accessed

- Limitations
- A bounded negative finding, not proof that asbestos was absent. NHHC DANFS, GAO HRD-80-2, NARA deck-log inventory, and official museum search were checked as shown in search_ledger. CourtListener's exact hull-number opinion search returned zero results; the exact-name opinion query timed out and a retry was blocked by the fleet pacing gate. Docket searches were not completed. No individual exposure, quantity, present condition, or legal eligibility is established.
