    Finding
NHHC DANFS states that LST-734 was laid down on 25 January 1944 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Dravo Corporation at Neville Island; launched on 4 March 1944; sponsored by Mrs. W. P. Spofford; and commissioned on 22 April 1944. It served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the capture and occupation of the southern Palau Islands (September–October 1944), Leyte landings (October–November 1944), Ormoc Bay landings (December 1944), Zambales–Subic Bay operation (January 1945), and Okinawa Gunto operation (April–June 1945). DANFS says it performed occupation duty in the Far East until late December 1945, was decommissioned on 7 May 1946 and struck on 5 June 1946, then sold to Bethlehem Steel on 24 May 1948 and subsequently scrapped. DANFS credits four World War II battle stars.

    Limitations
This is the official DANFS entry, available here only as an archived capture because the live NHHC URL returned 404 at research time. It supplies no complement figure and contains no asbestos statement. The sale and scrapping statement is reported as DANFS wording; later disposition was not independently verified.

    Limitations
The index confirms the date range of indexed log holdings; the log entries themselves were not retrieved or reviewed. It does not establish particular movements, exposures, asbestos content, or crew size.

  4. [4]Research log for this record: NHHC DANFS entry and NARA Navy logbook index; CourtListener authenticated API name search; additional public-source searches documented in search_ledger [other_primary]

    Finding type

    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, or other primary-source asbestos documentation for LST-734 was located in the sources reviewed. A broad CourtListener opinions query using USS LST-734 returned no established hull-specific asbestos case; the exact-phrase name query and separate hull-number docket search were blocked by the fleet pacing limit.

    Limitations
This is a bounded search result, not proof that asbestos was absent or that no relevant case exists. No asbestos statements appear in the DANFS entry or NARA logbook index. Firecrawl was unavailable because its keyless MCP quota was exhausted. CourtListener coverage is incomplete: the completed unquoted opinions query produced two query/name collisions; the exact-phrase opinion and hull-number docket requests were blocked. Asbestos presence aboard remains unknown.
