Photo captions document the hull beached (1945-46), alongside USS LST-627 and USS LST-660 at Okinawa circa 1945-46, and the 3 June 1945 Iheya landing in which the Eighth Marine RCT was transported by Navy LSTs including LST-747, LST-724 and LST-930 (caption cites US National Archives ID 74252365, a USMC photo).

    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its dates track DANFS where both exist; the two-hull photo caption (LST-627/LST-660) and contributor-supplied items are caption-level detail. Contains no asbestos content.

    Finding
Ship-specific records exist digitized in the National Archives Catalog: the ship's own report of operations in the invasion of Iheya Shima, Ryukyu Islands, 3-5 June 1945 (NAID 77515977, 7 images, WWII War Diaries microfilm series) and her September 1945 war diary (NAID 77532678). A USMC photograph (NAID 74252365, 'World War II - Okinawa') is identified by NavSource caption as the 3 June 1945 Iheya landing showing landing craft of the Eighth Marine RCT transported by LSTs including this hull. These are primary ship-generated records available for deeper pull.

Crew (1945); embarked Eighth Marine RCT elements at Iheya (June 1945)
    Limitations
Archival lead only: war diaries and operation reports are operational narratives - they contain no asbestos, insulation, or material content. The NARA catalog 'LST-747' query returns fuzzy matches across other hulls; only the file units titled for this hull are claimed. RG 24 deck logs for the full commission run were not individually confirmed digitized this session.

    Finding
Era/design inference for a 1944 diesel-powered LST-542-class hull: propulsion is two GM 12-567A diesels (900 hp each) with diesel-drive generators - there is no steam plant, so the boiler/steam-line lagging pathway does not apply. Asbestos-relevant applications for the type in this construction era were diesel exhaust and machinery lagging, gaskets and valve packing, deck coverings, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, and winch/windlass brake linings. WWII-era naval shipbuilding operated inside the documented asbestos-use era (federal supply reservation for shipbuilding; GAO-documented Navy-wide use through the early 1970s).

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material schedule, or work package located for LST-747. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; no quantity; no manufacturer attribution for this hull. Does not establish individual exposure.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LST-747 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated API reported the fleet-shared daily quota exhausted (~42,607 s / ~11.8 h to reset); logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. A secondary web sweep surfaced no qualifying case and no marketing-listicle assertions naming this hull.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - the hull's 1948 scrapping predates modern ACM-handling disclosure regimes. The litigation-repository search is a genuine open gap (throttled, not run). Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
