Documented for this hull: laid down 30 January 1943 at Jeffersonville, Ind., by the Jeffersonville Boat & Machine Co.; launched 7 April 1943; sponsored by Mrs. Dorsey W. Brown; commissioned 21 June 1943. 'During World War II, LST-75 was assigned to the European theater and participated in the invasion of Normandy in June 1944. Following the war, LST-75 performed occupation duty in the Far East in November and December 1945 and service in China in July and August 1947. She returned to the United States and was decommissioned on 22 December 1947, and transferred to the Philippine government on 30 December 1947, serving that government as Cotabato (T-36). She was struck from the Navy list on 22 January 1948 and scrapped in 1964. LST-75 earned one battle star for World War II service.'

    Limitations
Ship-specific history only; no asbestos or material content. The entry is terse: it covers no pre-Normandy movements and no Pacific/Okinawa service, though NavSource displays an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal ribbon for this hull (see gaps). 'Scrapped in 1964' conflicts with secondary Philippine-Navy history reporting decommission in early 1978 (see ev-08, gaps).

    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates track DANFS here and the spec block matches LST-1-class BuShips data. Contains no asbestos content. The displayed Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal ribbon (no star) implies limited Pacific/theater presence not covered by the DANFS narrative - an unresolved service-history flag (see gaps).

    Finding
A NARA-held ship-specific war diary for this hull's Normandy period is cited by identifier in NavSource captions (USS LST 75 War Diary, 6/1-30/44, NAID 277721566), and NARA-held film/photo records place the hull at Portland Hard #2 loading for Overlord 2-3 June 1944 (NARA ID 15383; NHHC 80-G-252203). NARA's digitized deck-log program covers WWII-era deck logs 1941-1950; the war diary is the direct ship-level lead for movements between commissioning and Normandy.

    asbestos_application
    Finding
A diesel-powered amphibious ship built January-June 1943 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a diesel LST-type amphibious ship of this period were engine-room and diesel-exhaust lagging, machinery thermal insulation, gaskets, valve packing, deck coverings, and accommodation insulation. As a diesel ship she carried no boiler/steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply; exposure relevance concentrates on machinery-space and accommodation materials and on later yard availabilities.

Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, or work package located for LST-75. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials. No quantity. Product names are normalized era terms; no manufacturer attribution for this hull.

Official U.S. Army history of the type: the LST was designed at a British-American conference in November 1941; America built all vessels for both countries; the first keel was laid 10 June 1942 and 1,051 were built by the end of WWII. Type characteristics: 328 ft, ~2,100-ton cargo capacity and ~200 soldiers, Tank Deck 230 ft x 30 ft x 12 ft, bow doors for direct beach landing. LSTs served at Sicily (first large-scale joint amphibious use, July 1943), Salerno, Anzio, Normandy, Southern France, and in the Pacific; on D-Day LSTs evacuated 41,035 wounded across the Channel; 26 LSTs were lost to enemy action and 13 to weather or accident.

    Finding
The builder's successor site: American Commercial Barge Line closed the historic Jeffboat facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana (80-100 acres of Ohio River riverfront) in 2018. Per ACBL's statement, the company 'has completed surveys and environmental cleanup' at the property ahead of a redevelopment project funded by ~$6.5M in Indiana READI 2.0 and $20M in Lilly Endowment grants; ACBL has offered to sell the site to the city of Jeffersonville. This documents that the yard that built this hull underwent modern environmental survey and cleanup - yard-site context only.

    Limitations
Site-level environmental context, not a hull record: the coverage does not name asbestos, no remediation detail (scope, media, contaminants) is given, and the surveys are not public in this reporting. Jeffboat is the successor entity of this hull's builder - no ship-level or wartime-period inference may be drawn from a 2018+ site cleanup.

    Finding
Philippine-service history for this hull: RPS Cotabato (T-36) was one of five Philippine Navy LSTs (with Pampanga, Bulacan, Albay, Misamis Oriental) that served as 'the workhorse in transporting Filipino soldiers to and from Korea for five years.' Documented operations: homecoming of the 10th BCT aboard Cotabato in April 1951; September 1951, Cotabato and Pampanga under CDR Tomas C. Robenul lifted the 20th BCT (Col. Salvador Abcede) to Korea; on 30 September 1951 the last 10th BCT elements departed Busan aboard Cotabato under LCDR Florentino Buenaventura, sheltering from storms at Kagoshima and entering Manila Bay 23 October 1951. The article notes 'RPS Cotabato (a veteran of the 1944 Normandy landings) and RPS Pampanga were decommissioned in early 1978.'

    Limitations
Secondary naval history (CIMSEC journal article), not a primary Philippine Navy record: it conflicts with DANFS/NavSource 'scrapped 1964' - the source documents decommission in early 1978, leaving the actual scrapping date unresolved (see gaps). The 'Normandy veteran' attribution corroborates hull identity. No asbestos content.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LST-75 or RPS Cotabato (T-36) was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper reported the shared daily quota exhausted (server-requested wait 42,240 s, ~11.7 h; helper exit 2) - logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; the only 'asbestos aboard' material is law-firm marketing content asserting asbestos on LSTs generically without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy. Yard-level: no NIOSH HETA for Jeffersonville Boat & Machine/Jeffboat located; Jeffboat litigation located is non-asbestos (Chaffers, 7th Cir. 2026, LHWCA paint/chemical claim; Blessey, 5th Cir. 2014 unpublished, contract dispute; Neafus, BRB 17-0653 2018, LHWCA Section 4(a) employer status).

Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). Deck logs, the NARA war diary (NAID 277721566), builder work packages, and Philippine Navy records are undigitized or unresolved leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
