Hill; and commissioned on 5 July 1944, Lt. Stephen A. McClean, USNR, in command.' WWII Asiatic-Pacific theater: Lingayen Gulf landing January 1945; assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto April through June 1945. Post-war: occupation duty in the Far East until mid-December 1945; returned to the United States; decommissioned 7 June 1946; struck from the Navy list 19 July 1946; 'On 13 October 1947, the tank landing ship was sold to William E. Skinner, New York, N.Y., for scrapping.' Two battle stars for World War II service.

    Limitations
Ship-specific history only; no asbestos or material content. Live NHHC DANFS page returned 404 on all candidate URLs 2026-10-03; archived capture of the official NHC page cited and labeled as such. Commissioning date here (5 July 1944) conflicts with the BuShips SDB-1945 v2 roster 'date of first commission' of 26 June 1944 - documented in ev-03 and gaps, unresolved.

Official BuShips roster entry for this hull: builder 'Dravo Corp., Neville Island, Pa.' (ditto-carried); keel laid 23 April 1944; launched 3 June 1944; 'date of first commission' 26 June 1944 - nine days EARLIER than the 5 July 1944 commissioning date carried by DANFS and NavSource, a documented conflict between two official Navy sources (see gaps). Class design table for the LST542-931 group (which includes this hull): 328 ft oa, 50 ft beam, ~2,366 t light / 4,080 t full, 11.6 kt, complement 13 officers / 106 enlisted.

Contemporaneous official register - dates and builder only, no material or asbestos content. PDF text layer has staggered OCR layout; the LST-752 row was read against the table's printed column headers (keel laid / launched / first commission) and cross-checked against neighboring hulls (LST-745, LST-748 values match known commissioning dates). The 26 June vs 5 July 1944 commissioning conflict is unresolved - both sources are official Navy records.

    asbestos_application
    Finding
An LST-542-class tank landing ship built April-July 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard applications aboard a diesel-powered LST of this design were: diesel exhaust lagging on the GM 12-567A mains, engine-room thermal and acoustic insulation, gaskets and valve packing, deck coverings and tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, and winch/windlass brake linings. As a diesel ship she carried no boilers and no steam propulsion plant - the boiler/steam-line lagging pathway dominant on steam vessels does not apply here; exposure relevance concentrates in the engine room, exhaust runs, and interior finish materials.

    Finding
GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos insulation extensively aboard ships and did not begin substituting alternative insulation materials until the early 1970s - spanning this hull's entire construction (1944) and service era (1944-46). Standing 1975 policy removed asbestos insulation only when damaged or required for repairs; original-era insulation typically remained until a yard period disturbed it (program-level context; this hull was already scrapped by then).

Archival leads for this hull: (1) a USS LST Ship Memorial LST Shipyard Collection photograph of the Dravo Neville Island ways circa June 1944 with the middle hull numbered LST-752 - the credited institutional collection (lstmemorial.org live; its virtual-exhibit subdomain was unreachable this session). (2) The Heinz History Center Detre Library & Archives holds the Dravo Corporation photographs collection - Neville Island LST construction, launch, and christening series (the hull is individually identifiable only where annotated on the photo backs). (3) NARA RG 24 deck logs for LST-752's commissioned period exist per standard custody practice but are not digitized publicly.

    Limitations
Archival leads only - a construction photo documents physical presence on the Dravo ways, not materials or work packages; the memorial collection page was verified via its NavSource caption, the virtual-exhibit subdomain (new.lstmemorial.org) was unreachable (connection failure) this session. No asbestos content in any located item. Deck-log custody is inferred from the standard NARA RG 24 practice, not from a catalog hit for this hull.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LST-752 was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper reported the fleet's daily quota exhausted (~11.6 h to reset); logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no hull-specific law-firm page at all - only generic landing-ship asbestos listicles (Gori Law Firm landing-ships page; Simmons Firm Navy-ships list) that assert class-level asbestos without naming this hull - excluded by source policy. The class-level CourtListener sweep (2026-09-16, class profile) found only an incidental LST-579 mention in a reunion-notice exhibit - not this hull.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). Deck logs, Dravo work packages, and any scrapping-contract records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
