- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The U.S. Coast Guard's official wartime history states that USS LST-764 was built by American Bridge Company at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, placed in full commission at New Orleans on 1944-09-15 under Lt. R. F. Nichols, USCGR, and was Coast Guard-manned during wartime service. It records her Iwo Jima operations beginning 1945-02-19, more than 30 beachings in 81 days, return to Iwo Jima on 1945-06-28, postwar transport service in Korea, Japan, and China, return to New Orleans on 1946-02-18, Navy manning on 1946-03-29, and decommissioning at Lake Charles on 1946-04-30.

- Limitations
- The transcription reproduces an official Coast Guard wartime history and is live at the cited URL. It supports the service history stated here, not asbestos presence, individual exposure, crew complement, or final disposition after decommissioning. NHHC's indexed DANFS text gives a different commissioning date (1944-09-13), but its live page returned 404 and is not used as the date source.

[4]National Archives, ‘Researching Asbestos aboard US Naval Vessel up through 1961’ (research guide consulted for the vessel-record and specification-file search paths) [other_primary]
- Locator
- Sections ‘Beginning Research,’ ‘Volumes,’ and RG 19 / RG 80 / RG 428 records guidance
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- Ship-specific asbestos documentation is unknown. No direct asbestos survey, abatement record, or other ship-specific asbestos document was located in the accessible authoritative records reviewed for this batch. This records a research result only and does not establish that asbestos was absent aboard.

- Limitations
- The NARA page is a research guide, not a survey of LST-764 and does not state that the ship lacked asbestos. A live-source search was limited by the Firecrawl keyless quota; CourtListener screening was separately blocked by its authenticated daily quota. Relevant construction, machinery, and shipyard records at NARA were not retrieved.
