    Limitations
Ship-specific unit and technical record; no asbestos or material content. NavSource's Argentine end-dates ('named BDT-13 in 1963', 'disposed 1969, fate unknown') conflict with the Histarmar per-ship record in ev-03, which documents rename 1959, baja 17 July 1963, and sale to Mapenave S.A. 5 December 1966 - the Histarmar record is more detailed and is carried for the disposition; the NavSource variant is preserved in gaps. Spec block is a class block repeated across LST-542 pages.

Argentine record for this hull: fleet list carries the ex-USS LST 801/'Don Antonio' as BDT No. 5/Cabo Buen Tiempo, buque desembarco de tanques, 1947-1959, then Cabo Buen Tiempo BDT-13, 1959-1963. Per-ship page: 1959 - incorporated into the Servicio de Transportes Navales, renamed CABO BUEN TIEMPO (2); 17 July 1963 - baja from the Servicio de Transportes Navales, laid up (en desarme) at Base Naval Rio Santiago; 1965 - radiado; 5 December 1966 - sold to Mapenave S.A. Machinery line on the same page: 'Dos motores diesel GM 12-567; 12 Cilindros (216 x 254); General Motors Corp.', 1,800 CV, 2 propellers, 11 knots; the boilers field is blank.

    Limitations
Argentine maritime-history foundation record (Histarmar cites Rodriguez/Arguindeguy fleet volumes) - the most detailed disposition source located; it documents sale to a private Argentine buyer (Mapenave S.A., 1966) rather than NavSource's 'disposed 1969, fate unknown'. histarmar.com.ar is DNS-unreachable this session (curl error 6) - archived Wayback copies are cited and labeled as archived. No asbestos or material content; the blank boilers field is consistent with (not proof of) the diesel plant.

Diesel, 12-567A' engines at 1,700 shp, with the boiler columns blank; only groups LST932-979 and LST1060-1080 carried the GM 12-278A variant, and only LST-1153 carried boilers (2-drum) with Westinghouse turbines. A diesel-powered landing ship with no boiler plant.

Class/design documentation, not a hull record - the table assigns machinery by design group, and LST-801 falls in LST542-931. Confirms 'diesel, no boilers' at the design level; does not establish insulation materials, quantities, or any asbestos content. PDF text layer is OCR-degraded; group rows were read in context. Finding
A diesel-powered LST built in late 1944 sits inside the era when shipboard insulation, gaskets, and friction materials were commonly manufactured with asbestos fiber. Era-standard applications for a diesel LST of this type and period: diesel exhaust lagging and gaskets, engine-room thermal/acoustic insulation, deck coverings/tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, winch and crane brake linings. As a diesel ship she carried no boilers - the boiler/steam-line lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply. This hull saw no known conversion to ARL/AGP/ARB, so the conversion-interior-rework pathway documented for some sister ships does not apply either.

GAO documented the Navy's asbestos-protection program: standing policy (1975) removed asbestos insulation only when damaged or required for repairs, modified 1979 to selective replacement in high-maintenance areas - era program context for Navy asbestos handling generally.

    search_ledger rows sl-uss-lst-801-lst801-01 through -10
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LST-801 (or her Argentine identities Don Antonio / ARA BDT No. 5 / ARA Cabo Buen Tiempo BDT-13) was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper reported the fleet-shared daily quota exhausted; a second attempt later the same day (04:48 CDT, ~7.4 h to reset) confirmed the quota still spent; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no asbestos content naming this hull. A prior class-level CourtListener sweep (lst-1-class profile, 2026-09-16) likewise found no qualifying asbestos docket naming any LST hull - only an incidental reunion-notice mention of LST-579 inside an unrelated case file.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). Deck logs, JeffBoat work records, and Argentine-era maintenance/disposal files are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
