    Finding
NavSource identifies LST-828 as an LST-542-class tank landing ship. DANFS records it as laid down on 1944-10-13 at Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron Co., Evansville, launched 1944-11-22, and commissioned 1944-12-13, with Lt. Richard P. Trenbeth, USNR, in command. It served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto from April through June 1945, then performed occupation duty in the Far East until early January 1946. It was decommissioned 1947-04-22; usable equipment was removed and the residual hulk destroyed in the Marianas on 1947-05-07; it was struck from the Navy list 1947-05-22. DANFS credits one World War II battle star.

The live NHHC DANFS URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-03. This citation is the live NavSource page, which labels the reproduced history as DANFS; the source was directly checked live. It supports the listed service facts only. It does not establish asbestos aboard or an exact wreck location.

    Finding
GAO reported Navy-wide that ships contained asbestos in some components, while thermal insulation was the Navy's major shipboard asbestos use. It described the Navy's October 1975 policy to eliminate asbestos where suitable alternatives were designated and the 1979 modification to selectively replace insulation in high-maintenance areas.

    Limitations
Navy-wide policy and use context only. GAO does not identify LST-828, its installed materials, a work period aboard this hull, any individual's exposure, or remaining material. The official GAO source was accessible through indexed result text but direct Studio-side fetch returned HTTP 403; Firecrawl was quota-blocked, so live full-text verification was unavailable. This row cannot support a ship-specific asbestos claim.

Ship-specific public records located in this session
    Limitations
Limited negative finding, not proof that such records do not exist. Firecrawl search was unavailable because its keyless daily quota was exhausted. The authenticated CourtListener exact-name request reported its daily quota exhausted before the hull-only query could be run; litigation review is incomplete. See gaps and search ledger.
