    Finding
NHHC/DANFS states that LST-895 was laid down on 1 October 1944 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Dravo Corp.; launched on 11 November 1944; sponsored by Mrs. Frank Brooks; and commissioned on 16 December 1944. During World War II she was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto from April through June 1945. She performed occupation duty in the Far East until mid-September 1945, was decommissioned on 17 August 1946, struck from the Navy list on 12 March 1948, and sold to Babbidge & Holt Co., Inc., Portland, Oregon, on 10 January 1952. DANFS credits one World War II battle star.

    Limitations
Ship-specific historical record. The archived entry does not identify asbestos, insulation, product manufacturers, quantities, conditions, individual exposure, or causation. The current NHHC page returned 404; the cited source is a verified archived official capture, not a live source. Fate after the 1952 sale is not stated.

PDF historical-exposure background discussion, Navy use of chrysotile and amosite insulation on naval vessels
    Finding type

    Finding
The NIOSH-hosted article states that the Navy used chrysotile and amosite asbestos insulation on naval vessels to insulate pipes, boilers, and machinery. This is Navy-wide historical context only; the article does not name LST-895 or document any material aboard it.

    Population
Navy-wide naval vessel context; not LST-895-specific
    Limitations
Program-level historical context, not a hull, class, builder, or shipyard finding. It does not establish installation, quantity, condition, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility for LST-895. No asbestos-containing product is documented aboard this hull by this source.

    Finding
No qualifying public ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazardous-material disclosure, material schedule, or other asbestos record naming USS LST-895 / LST-895 was located in the official and archival sources reviewed. This does not establish that asbestos was absent.

    Limitations
Search result only, not proof of absence. CourtListener was not searched because its required authenticated helper reported the fleet-wide pacing budget was momentarily spent before the request reached the API; exact-name and hull-number litigation searches remain open. Firecrawl search and scrape were unavailable because the hosted keyless quota was exhausted. The NARA logbooks and any builder records were not reviewed.
