- The ship's own anti-aircraft action report (all 3 images OCR-read this session) documents the 15 December 1944 action off the southwest coast of Mindoro, P.I.: 'The 909 was one of a group of 8 or 9 LSTs heading toward the beach'; approximately 12 enemy fighters attacked, 6 or 7 pressing this ship; 'Our ship seemed to be the first to open fire.' One attacker 'came directly over the bow, apparently trying to crash-dive on the conn. However, our AA probably killed the pilot, for he missed and the plane exploded off our port quarter. Wreckage was strewn over the deck and the LCS on the port davit was set on fire. Two other planes exploded directly off the fantail.' Claimed 3 'sure' kills by own ship's fire plus material contribution to at least 2 more; ship strafed; ammunition expended 2,131 rds 20MM, 386 rds 40MM, 300 rds .50 cal over ~4 minutes; guns listed 12 x 20MM, 7 x 40MM, 2 x .50 cal; material failure 'broken hammer 20MM.' Distribution included Commander Task Group 78.5 and Commander Task Unit 78.3.4.

Embarked troops/vehicles at Bito Beach, Leyte, 5 and 14 March (535th Amphibian Tractor Bn, 481st Amphibian Truck Co., 13th Eng. En-route casualties: fuel-line air leak on starboard main engine 29 March (repaired, resumed station); burned steering-engine controller contacts 31 March (hand steering 0709-0802). L-Day 1 April: LVTs launched 0700; headquarters for 2nd Platoon 481st Amphibious Tractor Co. and a DUKW company; anchored off Orange Beach One; opened fire on an identified 'BETTY' bomber at 1900 (54 rds 40MM, 600 rds 20MM). 2 April: transferred 5"/38 naval re-supply ammunition alongside DD-515. H. Mednick CEC USNR) at the LST loading beach, Guiuan, Samar, 6 September; logistics at San Pedro Bay to 16 September; embarked Army personnel, equipment, dogs and vehicles at Lingayen Gulf 23 September; sortied 26 September for Nagoya. Two typhoon encounters: course alterations from 28 September; the 30 September-1 October storm carried away the starboard pontoon causeway ('let go completely, drifted aft and clear') with minor damage (life lines torn off, bent chock and pontoon brackets); a second storm 4-5 October. Transferred fuel and water to SC-1261 on 5 October. Asbestos-relevant applications aboard a 1944 diesel landing ship of this type were the era-standard set - diesel-exhaust and machinery-space lagging, gaskets and packing, accommodation thermal insulation, deck coverings - and the documented ~April 1945 repair availability implied by the engineering report (ev-08) plus the 1948 breakup at Kaiser Vancouver sit inside the Navy's asbestos-use era.

- Litigation coverage incomplete this session: two authenticated CourtListener API attempts ('LST-909' exact-phrase, opinion index) were refused at the fleet daily-quota gate (server-directed stand-down ~7.8 h, consistent with the shared 2,800/day fleet budget being spent, not a per-session throttle). Substitute coverage: a site:courtlistener.com web-index sweep for 'LST-909'/'LST 909'/'LST909' returned only token collisions (909 area codes, street addresses in unrelated dockets) - no qualifying asbestos litigation naming this hull surfaced, but API-level coverage of opinion and RECAP docket indexes remains open.

- Finding
- Primary archive coverage for this hull is digitized but incomplete: the five ship-titled action reports read this session cover the Mindoro AA action (15 Dec 1944), the Lingayen resupply lift (Jan 1945), the Okinawa assault phase (5 Mar-6 Apr 1945), and the Nagoya (23 Sep-27 Oct 1945) and Hiro Wan (11-22 Nov 1945) occupation lifts - leaving commissioning through Nov 1944, May-Aug 1945, and Dec 1945-Feb 1946 without ship-produced reports surfaced. A BuPers World War II Casualty Reports file unit titled 'LST 909' (NAID 124042517) exists but is paper-only at College Park - its existence indicates casualty reporting for the hull; content unknown. Calvin University's Heritage Hall WWII collection holds a folder titled 'LST 909 (Ship: Asiatic-Pacific Theater), 1944-1948' - contents not reviewed. Parent-unit diaries (ComLSTGroup/Flotilla records in the same RG 38 series) are digitized and are the coverage bridge.

- Archival-lead row: the casualty report and the Calvin folder were not read; WWII deck logs proper for this hull were not located in NARA's digitized deck-log program; RG 181 yard work-package records for the implied ~April 1945 repair availability are an open archival lead.
