NavSource is a volunteer photographic-archive compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates here agree with DANFS. Contains no asbestos content. Photo-caption operational detail rests on contributed captions/analysis, not official action reports; the Mindoro dating is the contributor's inference from hull numbers and unit records.

    Finding
The Australian War Memorial holds a photograph (item 090850) captioned 'Tarakan, Borneo. 1945-05-01. Landing Ship, Tank (LST) high and dry at low tide' associated with the Headquarters 26th Infantry Brigade amphibious landing. NavSource attributes this image (AWM 090850) to USS LST-933, landing troops and equipment of the Royal Australian Army's Headquarters 26th Infantry Brigade across a pontoon causeway at Tarakan on 1 May 1945 - placing this hull in the Oboe One operation, between its documented Mindanao (April-May 1945) campaign periods.

    Limitations
The AWM catalog page (verified live) captions the image generically as an LST and does not itself print the hull number; the identification of the ship as LST-933 rests on NavSource's caption attribution to AWM 090850 - verification of the hull attribution is therefore partial. Tarakan is not one of the hull's battle-star campaigns in DANFS/NavSource; no asbestos content.

    Finding
An LST-542-class diesel-powered tank landing ship built mid-1944 sits inside the era when insulating and gasket/packing materials aboard Navy auxiliaries and amphibious ships were commonly manufactured with asbestos fiber. With no steam plant, the boiler/turbine lagging pathway does not apply; era-consistent asbestos-relevant applications aboard a ship of this type and period were diesel engine and exhaust lagging, machinery thermal/acoustic insulation, gaskets and valve packing, deck coverings/tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, and winch/crane brake linings.

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material schedule, or work package located for LST-933. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; establishes no quantity and no individual exposure. No manufacturer attribution for this hull. BuShips Ships' Data 1945 v2 (the class profile's machinery source, which annotates hull block 932-979 as carrying the GM 12-278A engine variant rather than the 12-567A on NavSource's spec block) returned 404 this session with no Wayback capture - the engine-model conflict is unresolved and logged in gaps.

Builder context: the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard (Hingham MA) operated December 1941 - 1945 as a purpose-built emergency yard after Bethlehem Steel's established yards hit capacity; it grew to more than 23,500 workers daily (over 2,700 women), produced 227 ships in 3.5 years including destroyer escorts and LSTs, set records of a destroyer escort in 23 days and five LSTs in 50 hours, and twice received the Army-Navy 'E' Award. This hull was built inside that mass-production workforce.

    Finding
Undigitized primary records for this hull exist: NARA holds WWII-era deck logs (RG 24) at College Park and wartime action reports/war diaries (RG 38) that would document the Palawan, Mindanao, Okinawa, and Tarakan operations and any repair record; no digitized catalog entry for LST-933 deck logs was located this session. The NHHC-posted Pacific Fleet organization of 1 May 1945 does not list LST 933 (only the unrelated LCT 933 appears) - that roster corroboration avenue is closed.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LST-933 was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the API returned a daily-quota response (~20,333 s / ~5.6 h to reset) on the first request; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no law-firm marketing content naming this hull; an American Legion magazine archive page contains an unrelated crew-locator listing ('LST 933 (Southwest Pacific, May 1944-Nov. 1945)') adjacent to a general mesothelioma article - incidental co-occurrence, not an exposure record, not carried as evidence.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). Deck logs, action reports, and any scrapping-contract records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
