- Documented for this hull: 'LST-935 was laid down on 3 July 1944 at Hingham, Mass., by the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard, Inc.; launched on 5 August 1944; and commissioned on 29 August 1944, Lt. (jg.) Bruce B. Wells in command.' Assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater; operations listed: Palawan Island landings (March 1945), Visayan Islands landings (March and April 1945), Mindanao Island landings (April 1945), Balikpapan operation (June and July 1945). 'Following the war, LST-935 performed occupation duty in the Far East and saw service in China until mid-April 1946. She returned to the United States and was decommissioned on 2 July 1946 and struck from the Navy list on 15 August that same year. The ship was sold to Consolidated Builders, Inc., Seattle, Wash., on 29 August 1947 for scrapping. LST-935 earned two battle stars for World War II service.'

- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates track DANFS and are corroborated here, but its per-hull specification block is a generic LST-542 template (it lists GM 12-567A diesels; the BuShips 1945 design table assigns this hull's block GM 12-278A - see gaps). Contains no asbestos content.

- Finding
- A scanned ship's-document collection for this hull exists in the public domain: from the estate of her second commanding officer - commissioning-ceremony photography (29 Aug 1944), crew and officer photos, photographs placing the ship at Biak Island, Netherlands East Indies (captioned '23 to 30 January or 8 to 8 June 1945') and at Manila (27-28 July and 20 Aug-4 Sep 1945), plus documents including the orders forming her crew, 'LST-935 History written by LT Wells', a synopsis of operations, Plan of the Day (one year in commission), Thanksgiving 1944 and Christmas 1945 menus, HQ US Forces China Theater letter of appreciation, relieve-of-command letters, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal authorization (2 stars), and a ship's organization manual. These are the richest located primary leads for this hull's operating history.

- Limitations
- Archival lead only: the album is indexed by caption but the document scans were not independently transcribed this session; the Biak caption is internally ambiguous ('23 to 30 January or 8 to 8 June 1945'); Manila/Biak port calls are not in DANFS and rest on these captions. No asbestos, maintenance, or materials content is evident from the album index.

- Finding
- Official BuShips design data for this hull's group: the LST932-979 design block - 328 ft oa, 50 ft beam, ~2,366 t / 4,080 t displacements, 11.6 kt - is tabled with '2 G. M. Diesel, 12-278A' engines at 1,700 (shp). LST-935 sits inside the LST932-979 block, which BuShips assigns the GM 12-278A engine variant rather than the 12-567A carried by earlier LST blocks.

- Class/design documentation, not a hull record: the design table covers the hull block as a group, not this vessel individually; it documents intended machinery, not materials installed aboard this hull. Conflicts with NavSource's generic spec block (GM 12-567A) - unresolved (see gaps). No asbestos content.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Era/design inference for this diesel-powered 1944 tank landing ship: no boilers - the steam-lagging pathway of boiler vessels does not apply. Asbestos-relevant applications aboard a ship of her type and period were diesel exhaust lagging and gaskets, engine-room thermal/acoustic insulation, valve and flange gaskets and machinery packing, deck coverings/tile, bulkhead and accommodation insulation, and winch/crane brake linings - period amphibious construction practice during the years when asbestos was reserved for and standard in naval shipbuilding.

- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material schedule, work package, or product identification was located for LST-935. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; establishes no quantity and no exposure for any individual. Product names are normalized era terms; no manufacturer attribution for this hull.

- Finding type

- Finding
- GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos insulation extensively aboard ships and did not begin substituting alternative insulation materials until the early 1970s - spanning this hull's entire construction (1944) and service era (1944-46). Standing policy as of 1975 removed asbestos insulation only when damaged or required for repairs, modified 1979 to selective replacement in high-maintenance areas.

[8]Batch-7478 search ledger (this record): archived NHHC DANFS; NavSource hull page + documents album (live); BuShips SDB 1945 v2; GAO product page; CourtListener (blocked - daily quota); NVR; NARA catalog (JS-blocked); secondary web litigation sweep [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-lst-935-01 through -09
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or litigation naming USS LST-935 was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: the CourtListener litigation sweep could not be completed - the authenticated API reported the fleet-wide daily quota exhausted (~7.5 h to reset) on the first request; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying asbestos content naming this hull - only encyclopedia/mirror history pages. A prior class-level sweep (lst-1-class profile, 2026-09-16) found no LST asbestos docket - one incidental reunion-notice mention of a different hull (LST-579) only.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). Deck logs, builder work packages, and any scrapping-contract records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
