    Identity packet verdict: PHANTOM — the vessel was never built. Authorized as patrol gunboat PG-204; redesignated PF-96 on 15 April 1943; named Macon (for Macon, Georgia) 30 August 1943; American Shipbuilding Co., Lorain OH, Maritime Commission Type S2-S2-AQ1 — construction contract cancelled 31 December 1943 prior to keel laying. No hull was ever started; no commissioned service under any name. Name collisions: USS Macon (ZRS-5) airship and USS Macon (CA-132) cruiser are different ships.
