- Finding
- DANFS identifies PC-780 as a PC-461-class patrol craft: laid down 27 October 1942 by Commercial Iron Works, Portland, Oregon; launched 16 December 1942; commissioned 19 June 1943; design complement 65; displacement 280 tons; length 173 feet 8 inches; beam 23 feet; draft 10 feet 10 inches; speed 20.2 knots. After shakedown at San Pedro, she performed coastal patrol and escort duty from San Francisco, served in Alaskan waters from February through October 1944, underwent overhaul after returning to Puget Sound, then operated with Hawaiian Sea Forces through the end of hostilities. She proceeded to Key West from 17 September to 1 November, decommissioned 12 June 1946, entered the Naval Reserve training program at Charleston the following month, transferred to Boston in 1949, returned to reserve, was named Maynard on 15 February 1956, sold on 16 September 1959, and towed for scrapping on 9 October 1959.

- Limitations
- DANFS establishes vessel history and specifications but does not state asbestos content, insulation materials, individual exposure, quantities, remaining material, or legal eligibility. The cited page is a live transcription mirror because the official NHHC URL returned 404/502 to direct fetches; the mirror is not an NHHC-hosted page. DANFS does not state a separate date on which the hull was struck from the Navy list.

- GAO report pp. 1-2, Navy response and discussion of shipboard asbestos applications
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- GAO's review of Navy shipbuilding and repair states that Navy ships used asbestos, with thermal insulation for machinery, equipment, and piping as a major application; it also discusses shipboard gaskets, packing, deck tile, electrical equipment, and equipment brakes. This provides period Navy context relevant to a World War II-era patrol craft.

- Limitations
- Program-level Navy evidence, not a record for PC-780/Maynard. It does not prove that any listed product was installed aboard this hull, does not quantify material, does not establish present-day presence, and does not establish an individual's exposure or legal eligibility.

[3]2026-10-03 source sweep: NHHC/DANFS, NARA public search, NPS public search, Naval Vessel Register search, official Navy/CDC/GAO asbestos-context sources, and authenticated CourtListener base-query sweep [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-maynard-pc780-01 through -10
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation was located for USS Maynard (PC-780): no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material inventory, or public official museum record was found in the sources searched. The accessible evidence supports only class/era context; it does not establish asbestos aboard this hull.

- Limitations
- This is a documented search result, not proof that asbestos was absent. NARA holdings, deck logs, construction specifications, reserve-fleet records, scrapping files, and non-digitized shipyard records may contain additional information. Firecrawl live-search/scrape access was unavailable because the MCP reported a multi-hour quota wait; fallback direct and Studio-side searches were used and the access gap is disclosed in the batch report.

- Authenticated helper queries: "USS Maynard" (opinion, docket); "PC-780" (opinion, docket), each --limit 20
- Finding type
- historical_record

- Limitations
- A no-result repository search does not prove that no litigation exists. This row records the authenticated search result only; it does not establish asbestos aboard, exposure, causation, product identity, or legal eligibility. Firecrawl access was separately blocked and is not treated as a litigation negative.
