- Finding
- NavSource reports that Oceanside was transferred to South Vietnam as RVNS Huong Giang (HQ-404), escaped to Subic Bay after the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, transferred to the Philippines, renamed BRP Batanes (LP65), and disposed of by the Philippine Navy in 1989.

- Limitations
- NavSource reports transfer on 1 March 1961, conflicting with the archived DANFS date of 1 February 1961; this record does not resolve that conflict. Establishes reported foreign service/disposition only, not materials retained aboard or asbestos exposure.

- Finding
- LSM-175 recommissioned 8 September 1950. She trained Marines and Seabees in amphibious operations until 30 June 1955, was decommissioned and placed in service 30 October 1955, was renamed Oceanside on 14 October 1959, and was placed out of service, struck from the Navy List, and transferred to the Republic of Vietnam on 1 February 1961 as Huong Giang (HQ-404).

- Limitations
- The live canonical NHHC URL returned 404 on the access date; this is an archived official-page capture, labeled accordingly. NavSource gives 1 March 1961 rather than 1 February for the transfer; the date conflict is not silently reconciled. This row establishes service and disposition history only; no asbestos content.

- Oceanside (LSM-175) accordion entry
- Finding type

- Finding
- NARA's Navy deck-logs availability page lists Oceanside (LSM-175) as commissioned in September 1944 and decommissioned in July 1946, recommissioned in September 1950 and decommissioned in February 1961, and links digitized deck-log catalog entries for 1950-1961.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- NavSource lists two General Motors GM 16-278A diesel engines and no steam plant. There is therefore no documented boiler/turbine lagging pathway. Possible era-standard applications on a 1944 U.S. Navy diesel-powered vessel include diesel exhaust/muffler lagging, gaskets and valve packing in engineering spaces, electrical cable insulation, and deck covering material.

- Engineering-space crew, construction and service eras
- Limitations
- The specification documents propulsion only and does not say asbestos. The applications list is class/era inference, not a finding that any material was installed on this hull; it does not establish quantity, condition, individual exposure, causation, or present-day presence.

- Finding type
- regulatory
- Finding
- GAO reported that the Navy's 1975 asbestos policy was to replace only insulation that was damaged or had to be removed for repairs; in 1979 it was modified to selectively replace asbestos insulation in high-maintenance areas where repairs were expected during the next operating cycle.

- Finding
- Authenticated CourtListener searches returned zero results for exact-name and hull-number queries in both opinions and RECAP dockets: "USS Oceanside" and "LSM-175". No qualifying asbestos litigation, other litigation, or name-collision result naming this hull was located in those indexed collections.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard this hull. The only asbestos association carried here is class/era inference in ev-uss-oceanside-lsm175-06; this negative finding does not establish or defeat individual exposure, causation, legal eligibility, or present material condition.

- Finding
- Following shakedown, LSM-175 sailed to the Pacific and participated in the Okinawa operation. During the assault she unloaded transport and cargo vessels; anti-aircraft projectiles struck her well deck, wounding nine embarked Marines and two sailors. She later carried rolling stock and mixed cargo among the Marianas and Philippines, returned to Okinawa, and served briefly with occupation forces in Japan. She received one World War II battle star.
