- Finding
- LST-1073 was laid down 20 February 1945 by Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard, Hingham, MA; launched 22 March 1945; commissioned 17 April 1945. It deployed to the Pacific via New York and the Panama Canal, reached Nagasaki 24 September 1945, and ran occupation transport between Japan and the Philippines through January 1946. It decommissioned 5 August 1946 into the Pacific Reserve Fleet at Astoria, was towed to Bremerton 10 October 1950 for reactivation, and recommissioned 3 November 1950. Korean War service included two WestPac tours (POW lifts Pusan to Koje Do; Inchon resupply and Marine landing exercises; redeployment of the 187th Regimental Airborne Combat Team and 24th Infantry Division; Cho Do Island evacuation; Operation Big Switch). It was named Outagamie County 1 July 1955, conducted 1963 mid-Pacific oceanographic survey operations, 1964 Hawaii troop transport, a 1965 Adak tour (aiding the grounded Liberian freighter Hadjitsakas), and Vietnam intra-coastal logistics and shuttle operations from 1966 through April 1969. DANFS credits four battle stars for Korean War service.

- Population
- Ship's company, embarked troops, and shipyard personnel
- Limitations
- Authoritative ship history used for the vessel timeline through April 1969; the DANFS entry (published 2015, text circa 1969) does not cover the 1971 decommissioning, Brazilian transfer, stricken, or disposal. The page does not document asbestos, an asbestos product, a survey, abatement, individual exposure, causation, or remaining material. The stat line lists class as 'LST-511' and complement 112, conflicting with NavSource's LST-542 attribution and 117-man ship's company; both conflicts are preserved in gaps.

- History, disposition, campaign tables, and specifications blocks
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NavSource records the LST-542 class attribution, Bethlehem-Hingham construction dates, the 5 August 1946 decommissioning at San Francisco, Pacific Reserve Fleet layup at Astoria, 3 November 1950 recommissioning at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Bremerton, six Korean War campaign periods (earning six battle stars), the 1 July 1955 naming, eight Vietnam War campaign periods (eight campaign stars) extending into August 1970, the 21 May 1971 decommissioning at Orange, TX, loan transfer to Brazil as Garcia D'Avilla (G 28), outright Brazilian purchase and striking from the Naval Register on 1 December 1973, and sale for scrapping by Brazil in 1990. It also records 1,625-ton light and 4,080-ton full-load displacement, 328-foot length, 50-foot beam, 11.6-knot trial speed, 13-officer/104-enlisted complement with 16-officer/147-enlisted troop accommodations, two General Motors 12-567A 900-hp diesel engines, a single Falk main reduction gear, three diesel-drive 100-kW ship-service generators, and two propellers at 1,700 shp.

- Limitations
- Live naval-history archive used for specifications and post-1969 disposition corroboration. Its Korean and Vietnam battle-star counts (six and eight) conflict with DANFS's 'four battle stars for Korean War Service'; the conflict is preserved in gaps. It does not document asbestos aboard this hull or establish exposure, causation, quantity, condition, or legal eligibility.

- Finding
- The National Archives recommends beginning with the ship history and then searching Record Group 19 Bureau of Ships correspondence, ship-specific hull files, class files, and construction or overhaul shipyard records. For asbestos research it identifies RG 19 ship engineering drawings arranged by hull number and Material Group, with S39-Insulation and Lagging and S48-Piping the most frequently reviewed S-codes, and the 19-Micro microfilm drawing series for 1945-1955.

- Limitations
- Research guidance, not an Outagamie County finding. The page expressly describes a research pathway and warns that the listed series do not themselves provide direct evidence of asbestos presence; it does not establish asbestos presence, products, quantity, condition, exposure, or abatement on LST-1073.

- Finding
- GAO's report concerns Navy-wide asbestos use and worker-protection programs, including the Navy's 1975 policy of removing asbestos insulation only when damaged or required for repairs and its 1979 modification to selective replacement in high-maintenance areas; fieldwork was at Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards. It is not a survey or material record for USS Outagamie County.

[6]Batch-6561 source sweep and search ledger [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-outagamie-county-lst1073-01 through -13
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located in the accessible production sweep: no asbestos survey, product specification, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, museum-condition record, or public asbestos litigation record naming USS Outagamie County (LST-1073) was verified. The only asbestos-keyword web hit naming the hull was a law-firm marketing page, which is excluded as non-authoritative. CourtListener returned zero opinions and zero dockets for "LST-1073" and zero opinions for "USS Outagamie"; the bare "Outagamie County" phrase returned hundreds of hits, all examined as Wisconsin-county name collisions.

- Limitations
- A negative search result does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. CourtListener name queries are dominated by Outagamie County, Wisconsin municipal litigation; only first pages were reviewed, so a deep hit cannot be excluded, but ship-identifying queries returned zero. The negative finding excludes only located evidence and is not an exhaustive litigation or archival conclusion.
