- Finding
- The NHHC DANFS entry identifies PC-586 as a PC-461-class submarine chaser. It records that the vessel was laid down 29 May 1942 at Defoe Shipbuilding Co., Bay City, Michigan; launched 15 July 1942; commissioned at the U.S. Naval Station, New Orleans, on 5 October 1942; and served as an escort along the U.S. West Coast, then as a Pearl Harbor training craft and for patrol and convoy escort in Hawaiian waters. A convoy escort mission took it to Saipan on 23 July 1944. After the war it briefly resumed training from Pearl Harbor and then served at Charleston, South Carolina, and Coco Solo, Canal Zone. It decommissioned and entered reserve at Norfolk in January 1950; was named Patchogue on 15 February 1956 but never served under that name; and was stricken 1 April 1959 before sale to Potomac Shipwrecking Co. DANFS lists a complement of 46 and one World War II battle star.

- Limitations
- The material is attributed to the official NHHC DANFS entry, but its direct page was dead at research time and no archived capture was found. The search-result rendering is not a live page citation. Carried as partial evidence with this access defect disclosed. DANFS documents service history, not asbestos content or exposure.

- Finding
- NARA Special List 44, by ship number, lists PC-586 deck logs from 5 October 1942 through 25 October 1946. The list establishes that logbooks for this hull and period are in the Navy deck-log holdings; it does not itself report events recorded in those logs.

- Limitations
- This is a finding aid, not the deck logs themselves. It confirms records availability only; no deck-log content was retrieved and no asbestos, exposure, or individual service finding is made.

[4]Research negative finding; see this vessel’s search_ledger entries and limitations. No single source proves absence. [other_primary]

- Scope and exclusions documented in BATCH-7961-REPORT.md.
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazardous-material inventory, or other direct asbestos documentation for PC-586 was located in the sources reachable during this review. Ship-specific asbestos documentation remains unknown.

- Limitations
- A bounded search result, not evidence that asbestos was absent. Firecrawl search/scrape was unavailable due an exhausted keyless quota; the official DANFS detail URL returned 404; CourtListener could not be reached because the shared pace limiter stopped the first query before HTTP. NARA logbook contents and potentially relevant archival files were not examined.
