- Finding
- East Carolina University identifies PC-1084 as a PC-461-type U.S. subchaser, reports commissioning on 1943-08-31 and decommissioning in December 1945, and describes convoy escort service along the Atlantic coast. ECU's account of war-diary research reports a Boston-to-Miami trip in October 1943 and convoy escort work, mostly out of Key West and Miami, from at least mid-November 1943, with later Atlantic and Caribbean runs including Key West-New York and New York-Guantanamo Bay. ECU reports transfer to surplus in August 1946, later relocation to Breece's Landing on the Cape Fear River near Fayetteville, North Carolina, and archaeological recording of the partially submerged wreck between the Person Street and Grove Street bridges during its 2025 maritime field school.

- Population
- Wartime crew (service context); ECU maritime archaeology field school (2025)
- Limitations
- Institutional field-school reporting by ECU professor Nathan Richards; its historical account draws on war diaries but is not itself a Navy service record. It does not establish asbestos presence, exposure, or the vessel's detailed construction, machinery, or crew complement.

- Finding
- GAO's review of Navy asbestos programs states that asbestos continued to be used in some shipboard applications, including gaskets and pipe-hanger liners, where the Navy had not designated suitable asbestos-free substitutes.

- U.S. Navy shipboard asbestos program
- Limitations
- Navy-wide program context from 1979; it does not identify PC-1084, its class, its builder, or any product installed aboard this vessel. It cannot support an inference that asbestos was aboard PC-1084.

- Finding
- NARA identifies ship-engineering-drawing series and S-codes including S39 (insulation and lagging) and S48 (piping) as relevant research avenues. It cautions that Navy deck logs and muster rolls do not provide information on asbestos use or presence in ships or components and therefore are not direct asbestos evidence.

- U.S. Navy vessels researched through 1961
- Limitations
- This guide describes archival research methods and limits; it provides no evidence that asbestos was present aboard PC-1084. The identified ship-specific engineering and correspondence records were not obtained or reviewed for this batch.

- Finding
- No direct ship-specific asbestos survey, asbestos abatement record, or hull engineering drawing documenting asbestos aboard PC-1084 was located in the accessible digitized sources searched for this batch. The NARA deck-log list located is a historical finding aid, not asbestos evidence.

- Limitations
- This is a bounded negative search result, not proof that asbestos was absent. NARA identifies additional hull-numbered engineering drawings and correspondence as research avenues; those records were not retrieved or reviewed. No claim about exposure, quantity, present condition, or legal eligibility follows.
