- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry. Its launched/commissioned dates (27 Aug 1943 / 10 Dec 1943) conflict with uboat.net, shipbuildinghistory, and the NARA logbook coverage start of 12/10/1942 - the 1942 dates are carried and the NavSource variants logged in gaps; the 'c. August 1943' launching-dolly photo caption is likely the typo source. The 'Reclassified PG-48' line conflates this hull with ex-PGM-33 - resolved in ev-09. Contains no asbestos content.

- uboat.net record for this hull: class PC-461, pennant PC-1121; built by Defoe Shipbuilding Co. (Bay City, Michigan); ordered 27 February 1942; laid down 30 June 1942; launched 27 August 1942; commissioned 10 December 1942; 'Transferred to the Philippines after the war being renamed Camarines Sur.' Commanding officers listed: Lt. Joseph Watson Stivers, USNR (10 Dec 1942 - early 1943); R N Sargent, USNR (early 1943 - early 1944); Lt. Roland D. Blocksom, USNR (early 1944 - early 1945); R L Langworthy, USNR (early 1945 - mid 1945); Lt. Peter W. Thornton, USNR (mid 1945 - late 1945). Documented event: 26-29 June 1944 convoy Langemak Bay to Humboldt Bay - at 0040K/27 transports Joseph P. Bradley and Francis A. Wardwell joined escorted by PC-1121 (Lt. R.D. Blocksom, USNR); on 28 June the two transports plus Julien Dubuque were detached to Aitape escorted by the three American patrol vessels; convoy arrived Humboldt Bay ~0800K/29. - Finding
- NARA Special List 44 catalogs surviving deck logs for this hull: row 'PC-1121' shows logbook coverage 12/10/1942 - 6/30/1945 (PDF page 66, PC-number sequence). The coverage start aligns with the 10 December 1942 commissioning date given by uboat.net and shipbuildinghistory - deck logs begin at commissioning - and contradicts NavSource's 1943 dates. The coverage end (30 June 1945) is the standard WWII logbook accession boundary; later logs (1945-48) would be under later accessions not tabulated in SL-44.

- Finding
- Two NavSource-hosted photographs document this hull in dry dock at Seeadler Harbor, Manus, Admiralty Islands, Papua New Guinea, in September 1944 - one credited as National Archives photo 80-G-286199 (contributor Mike Green), the other a view 'in an unidentified small dry dock.' A third photo (Bob Daly/PC-1181 collection, Great Lakes Institute credit) shows the hull on a launching dolly at Defoe Shipbuilding 'c. August 1943' and describes Defoe's inverted-hull roll-over method (welding completed on the inverted hull, then rolled over onto a launching dolly by crane in ~10 minutes by ~12 men; PC-471 first rolled August 1941). NARA photo 80-G-286199 is a retrievable primary artifact documenting a ship-specific maintenance event (drydocking).

- Finding
- A PC-461-class submarine chaser completed in late 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era (GAO HRD-80-2). Era-standard asbestos applications aboard a diesel-driven steel patrol craft of this size and period were: diesel-exhaust and muffler lagging; engine-space thermal and acoustic insulation; compressed-asbestos exhaust, cooling, and fuel-system flange gaskets and engine cylinder gaskets; valve stem and machinery packing; electrical cable insulation; deck coverings; and winch/windlass brake linings. As a diesel vessel she carried no boilers or steam distribution - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway documented on steam vessels does not apply.

- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, museum record, or verified litigation naming USS PC-1121 or RPS Camarines Sur (C-21/PS-21) was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The only 'asbestos aboard' material surfaced is competitor marketing content (mesothelioma.net patrol-boat listicle; mesotheliomahope.com class-level page) asserting product-level asbestos use without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy; neither names this hull. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper returned daily-quota-exhausted with a ~3.8-hour reset; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - a 1942 naval combatant sits squarely in the documented use era. The litigation-repository search is a genuine open gap (quota-blocked, not run). NARA deck logs (12/10/1942-6/30/1945 per SL-44) and photo 80-G-286199 are undigitized leads. - TWO CORRECTIONS. (1) Dates: NavSource gives launched 27 August 1943 / commissioned 10 December 1943 for this hull; uboat.net gives launched 27 August 1942 / commissioned 10 December 1942; shipbuildinghistory's Defoe yard table gives delivered 10-Dec-42; NARA SL-44 logbook coverage for PC-1121 begins 12/10/1942. Three independent records plus Defoe's documented ~9-week build tempo (sister PC-1120: laid 19 Jun 1942, launched 24 Aug 1942) support 1942 - NavSource's 1943 is carried as the variant. (2) Identity: NavSource's 'Reclassified PG-48' line on the PC-1121 page conflates two hulls. NavSource's own PGM-33 page states PGM-33 was 'built for the Philippines' by Georgia Shipbuilding, Savannah, delivered 15 September 1954, transferred and named RPS Camarines Sur (PG 48), struck 1974 - a different, purpose-built motor gunboat, not a reclassification of PC-1121. Wikipedia's PN decommissioned-ships list likewise carries two separate rows (C-21 ex-PC-1121, 1948-1953; PG-48 ex-PGM-33, 1954-1974); a third PN fleet list surfaced in search-index excerpt (kalasagnglahi.angelfire.com) places the two under different classes but could not be fetched live. The Wikipedia note that C-21 was 'believed to be rebuilt to PGM-33-class' conflicts with NavSource's purpose-built statement and is unverified.

States Camarines Sur was among the PC-461-type units commissioned into the Philippine Naval Patrol on 02 July 1948 under the US Mutual Defense Assistance Pact, and that 'the earlier ships bowed out of service during the late 1960's' - a later PN service end than the 1953 striking shown by NavSource/shipbuildinghistory/Wikipedia.
