    Finding
NavSource's PC-1132 hull page identifies PC-1132 as a PC-461-class submarine chaser. It states that Defoe Shipbuilding Corp. of Bay City, Michigan laid the vessel down on 5 November 1942, launched it on 29 December 1942, commissioned it on 10 August 1943, decommissioned it on 31 May 1946, struck it from the Naval Register on 16 September 1947, and destroyed it on 20 May 1948. The same page provides the cited propulsion specification: two 1,440 bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines, Farrel-Birmingham single-reduction gear, and two shafts.

    Limitations
NavSource is a naval-history compilation and the page states that no DANFS history is available for PC-1132. It does not document asbestos, materials aboard, individual exposure, repair scope, legal eligibility, or the circumstances of destruction.

    Finding
The National Archives' Special List 44, by Ship Numbers, lists PC-1132 with Navy deck-log coverage from 10 August 1943 through 30 June 1945. This is a ship-specific archival lead under the PC-1132 designation.

    Limitations
The finding aid establishes record coverage, not the contents of the logs. The underlying logs were not retrieved and this row does not establish asbestos presence, a voyage, maintenance work, personnel exposure, or legal eligibility.

    asbestos_application
    Finding
GAO's Navy asbestos review states that the Navy reported all ships contained some asbestos in components such as clutches and electric cables, and that thermal insulation was the Navy's major use of asbestos aboard ships. PC-1132 was built and commissioned during the period addressed by the report, so this is era-level context for research prioritization only.

1979 report concerning Navy asbestos policy and use
    Population
Navy ships and shipyard workers covered by the GAO review
    Limitations
The GAO report concerns Navy ships and shipyards at program level; it does not name PC-1132, its builder, its class, or any particular installation aboard this hull. It cannot establish ship-specific asbestos presence, quantity, condition, disturbance, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility. Direct automated retrieval of the GAO PDF returned HTTP 403 on the access date; the report text was available in the authoritative web-search result, but direct full-text retrieval remains an access gap.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazardous-material disclosure, product-identification record, or completed asbestos-litigation result was located in the authoritative-source searches documented in this record. The CourtListener search is not a negative result because the authenticated helper reported a fleet-shared daily-quota stand-down before the exact-name and hull-number sweep could be completed.

    Limitations
This is a finding about the public records searched, not proof that asbestos was absent aboard PC-1132. CourtListener litigation status remains an open gap because the required authenticated search was blocked; no litigation classification is inferred from the absence of a returned result.
