NavSource vessel record for this hull: built in 1927 as the yacht Sybarita by Consolidated Shipbuilding Corp., Morris Heights, NY; acquired by the Navy 18 October 1940; commissioned USS PC-510; reclassified a District Patrol Craft, YP-105, in September 1941; struck from the Naval Register 20 March 1946; transferred to the Maritime Commission 30 August 1946 and sold to John Boro of Philadelphia, PA; fate unknown. Specifications: length 81 ft (85 ft by 1946), beam 15 ft, draft 6 ft (8 ft by 1946), speed 13 kt, one 600-hp gasoline engine, one shaft. NavSource holds no photograph of this craft and states no DANFS history is available for PC-510.

Co., Morris Heights, N.Y.; remarks: ex-Sybarita (PC510), designation changed 8 Oct. 1941.

    Limitations
Official primary source for wartime specifications and the craft's allocation at Solomons as of the April 1945 edition; does not document operational movements, crew, materials, or any asbestos content. 'Solomons' allocation is read against the documented Naval Amphibious Training Base Solomons (active 1942-04/1945); the SDB does not say how long the craft had been or remained there.

    Finding
Hull-number identity check: PC-510 is NOT a 173-ft PC-461-class steel submarine chaser despite falling inside the PC number block. The number belonged to the 1927 yacht conversion Sybarita - listed in the converted-yacht portion of the PC table as 'ex-Sybarita, acquired 1940, reclassified YP-105 1941, sold 1946' - and was not reissued to a PC-461-class hull. Any exposure framing drawn from the PC-461 class (twin GM diesel, 280-ton, 173-ft type) does not apply to this hull.

    Limitations
Both the compilation table and the patrol-vessel list agree that PC-510 resolves only to the yacht conversion; absence of a reissued PC-461-class PC-510 is confirmed by the class roster but the roster itself is a secondary compilation.

    Finding
Program context for the designation this hull carried: the YP designation originally meant a yard patrol craft; the Navy created its initial YP fleet from about sixty ex-Coast Guard boats and grew it to about 650 craft for WWII, mostly by the acquisition and conversion of private yachts and fishing vessels; after the war all these boats were sold off. YP-105 appears in the table: 'Consolidated SB, Morris Heights NY, 85 ft, 1927, ex-Sybarita, acquired 1940 as PC 510, YP 1941, sold 1946.'

    Finding
GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos insulation extensively aboard ships and did not begin substituting alternative insulation materials until the early 1970s - a program-level finding spanning this craft's Navy service era (1940-1946).

Navy shipyard workers; asbestos program review
    Limitations
Program-level documentation; supports era context only, not any fact specific to this hull. The GAO review concerned asbestos use aboard Navy ships generally - principally steam-propelled vessels and shipyard work; it does not address small gasoline-engine district craft. Full text not retrieved (gao.gov blocks automated fetch, HTTP 403, consistent with prior batches) - content via product-page description.

    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
Asbestos-relevant inference only: as a 1927 motor yacht with a single 600-hp gasoline engine and one shaft, this craft had no boiler, turbine, or steam-line lagging of the kind that dominated asbestos loading on steam vessels. Era-standard applications that could have contained asbestos aboard a small gasoline craft of this vintage are limited to engine exhaust lagging, gaskets and machinery packing, and electrical insulation, plus whatever insulation the 1940-41 Navy conversion added. No source documents any asbestos product aboard this hull.

Wartime crew; Navy conversion yard workforce 1940-41 (unidentified)
    Limitations
Pure era inference attached to verified specifications; no class or type documentation of insulation materials was located for converted yachts of this size, so even this limited inference is weaker than the class-level inference used on steam vessels in this dataset. Does not establish presence, quantity, exposure, or legal eligibility.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, museum record, or qualifying litigation naming USS PC-510 / YP-105 / Sybarita was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The completed CourtListener 'PC-510' queries returned only name collisions - an Indiana post-conviction docket number '48A05-1109-PC-510' (Vickers v. State, Ind. App. 2012) and a D. Oregon petroleum-contamination/insurance case (Goldingay v. Progressive, 2018) - neither involving this vessel or asbestos litigation. The 'PC-510' docket-text base query returned 178 hits whose first page is entirely non-vessel, non-asbestos material. No law-firm or marketing listicle makes an asbestos claim for this hull - the asbestos-ship listicle pattern does not cover this designation.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard; and the CourtListener sweep is partially open - the 'YP-105' opinion/docket base queries and the sanctioned 'PC-510 asbestos' docket variant (of the 178-hit overflow) remained pacing-blocked after repeated spaced retries this session (sl-11), so litigation status for the YP-105 designation and the docket tail is unsearched, not negative. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
