- Navy logbook series; PC-551
- Limitations
- This official index establishes only the listed coverage dates in the logbook series. It does not provide a complete service history, construction details, asbestos information, an asbestos survey, abatement information, individual exposure, or legal eligibility. The underlying logbooks were not retrieved.

[3]NavSource Online, Submarine Chaser Photo Archive, PC-551 (live hull page verified 2026-10-03) [other_primary]
- Locator
- Hull page, history bullets and final note that no DANFS history is available
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The live hull page identifies PC-551 as a PC-461-class submarine chaser, laid down 22 July 1941 by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Co. at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, launched 12 April 1942, and commissioned as USS PC-551 on 15 May 1942. It reports European-theater service in the Sicilian occupation, Salerno landings, Anzio-Nettuno landings, and the invasion of southern France; decommissioning and transfer to France at Toulon on 19 October 1944 as Mameluck (W 113); reclassification as P-614 in 1952; and condemnation and scrapping later in 1958.

- Population
- Leathem D. Smith construction personnel (1941-42); U.S. Navy crew (1942-44); French Navy crew after transfer
- Limitations
- This ship-history compilation does not establish asbestos content, ACM locations, abatement, individual exposure, quantities, or legal eligibility. Its 15 May 1942 commissioning date conflicts with the National Archives index's 19 May 1942 begin date; the record preserves rather than resolves that discrepancy. The page says no DANFS history is currently available, which is an access finding rather than proof no Navy record exists.

- Finding
- The hull page reports 280 long tons light and 450 tons full load; 173 feet 8 inches length; 23 feet beam; 10 feet 10 inches draft; 20.2 knots; complement 65; and propulsion by two 1,440-bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines, Farrel-Birmingham single-reduction gear, and two shafts.

- Population
- Crew and engineering personnel aboard PC-551
- Limitations
- These specifications are not an asbestos inventory. The diesel configuration does not establish what insulation, gaskets, packing, electrical components, or exhaust lagging were installed on this hull. No steam plant is reported here, so no boiler or turbine lagging claim is carried.

[5]Research ledger for PC-551: National Archives, NHHC/DANFS, NavSource, and authenticated CourtListener review [other_primary]
- Locator
- Search ledger sl-uss-pc-551-pc551-01 through -07; authenticated helper diagnostics for all four base-query invocations
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material inventory, exposure account, or qualifying asbestos-litigation record was located in the completed sources. All four required authenticated CourtListener base queries were invoked, but each helper invocation returned only its authenticated-request diagnostic before the execution window ended; no search-result payload was received and no litigation classification or search negative is asserted.

- Population
- CourtListener opinions and RECAP dockets; PC-551 historical sources
- Limitations
- This is a bounded research result and CourtListener access gap, not proof that no record, litigation, or asbestos exists. Because no base result page was returned, overflow could not be established and asbestos-qualified variants were not run. No anonymous, raw, curl, or v3 CourtListener request was made. Undigitized Navy, builder, French Navy, disposal, and litigation records remain open leads.
