    Finding
NavSource identifies this hull as PC-594, a PC-461-class submarine chaser: laid down 1 May 1942 by Dravo Corporation at Neville Island, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; launched 7 September 1942; commissioned 9 March 1943; transferred to the War Assets Administration 3 December 1947; and sold to C. Roose of Honolulu, Hawaii. The page gives 450-ton displacement, 173 ft 8 in length, 23 ft beam, 10 ft 10 in draft, 20.2-knot speed, complement 65, and two 2,880-bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler R-99DA diesels with Westinghouse reduction gear and two shafts.

Dravo construction trades (1942); Navy crew (1943-1947); disposal/salvage workers (post-1947)
    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer compilation and is used for the hull chronology/specifications; it contains no asbestos or hazmat finding. It states that no DANFS history is currently available for PC-594. Underlying Navy construction, service, and disposal files were not located in an accessible official ship-history record.

    Finding
HURL's artifact record identifies PC-594 as a PC-461-class patrol craft found 25 August 2003 in the Kewalo area at 435 m depth. It records loss after 3 December 1947, scuttling as the circumstance of loss, redundancy after World War II as the reason, a largely intact but stripped condition with armament gone, and transfer to the War Assets Administration followed by sale to C. Roose of Honolulu. Its artifact history describes Dravo construction, Caribbean convoy duty, passage through the Panama Canal in January 1945, arrival in Tokyo Bay in September 1945 for occupation service, China service, cancellation of a planned Operation Crossroads assignment because of engine trouble, and return to the United States.

Crew and occupation-service personnel; later wreck/scuttling context
    Limitations
HURL documents wreck identity, condition, and a summary service/disposal history, not asbestos, hazmat, or occupational exposure. The record's 6-officer/53-man figure differs from NavSource's complement of 65; both are retained as source-attributed figures. 'Lost after December 3, 1947' does not provide a scuttling date.

    Limitations
The inventory confirms a surveyed submerged-resource site but does not identify asbestos, a material inventory, an occupational exposure, or a complete service/disposal history. Survey data are held by HURL and NOAA partners; the underlying survey package was not retrieved.

Report subject/summary and 'Navy's Policy on Use of Asbestos' section, pp. 1-2
    Finding type
    gov_survey
    Finding
GAO reported that Navy ships contained asbestos in components including clutches and electric cables, and that thermal insulation was the Navy's major use of asbestos aboard ships. The report also describes Navy policy issued in 1975 to eliminate asbestos where suitable alternatives had been designated.

    Population
Navy ships and shipyard workers; Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards
    Limitations
Program-level Navy evidence, not a PC-594 survey or material list. It supports period context for a 1942-built Navy vessel but does not establish that asbestos was installed aboard this hull, identify products or quantities, or establish exposure or legal eligibility. Direct automated fetches of the GAO page/PDF returned HTTP 403; the official product-page/search content was accessed through the web fallback.

    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material specification, or qualifying asbestos-litigation record was verified for PC-594 in the sources searched. Asbestos content aboard this hull is unknown; the available evidence supports only class/era context.

    Limitations
This is a negative result from the located public sources, not proof that asbestos was absent. The CourtListener litigation sweep is incomplete because the authenticated helper reported the fleet-wide pacing budget was momentarily spent on the first base query; the remaining three required base queries were not run. Firecrawl research was also unavailable because its hosted keyless quota reported a multi-hour reset. NARA deck logs, war diaries, construction specifications, repair records, and the HURL survey data remain archival leads.

    Locator
    NavSource PC-594 specifications; GAO HRD-80-2 asbestos-use discussion
    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
Era context only: PC-594 was a 1942 steel-hulled PC-461-class diesel submarine chaser. Possible period applications include machinery or exhaust insulation, gaskets, valve packing, electrical insulation, and deck/accommodation materials; because the available hull record identifies diesel engines and no boilers or steam turbines, boiler/turbine lagging is not asserted for this vessel.

    Limitations
Inference from class/era and propulsion context, not a finding that any listed product was installed aboard PC-594. No manufacturer, quantity, location, or remaining-condition claim is made. This row cannot by itself establish ship-specific exposure or determine the evidence tier above class/era context.
