- Finding
- NARA's contemporaneous war-history document states that USS PC-614 was placed in commission at Jacksonville, Florida, on 9 July 1943; proceeded to Miami for shakedown and then Guantanamo Bay under the Caribbean Sea Frontier; conducted convoy-escort and merchant-shipping escort duty between Guantanamo Bay and the British West Indies; was detached on 1 April 1945 for San Francisco via the Panama Canal; conducted antisubmarine patrols off San Francisco during the United Nations Peace Conference; underwent overhaul after the conference on 30 June 1945; went to San Pedro for refresher training; then went to San Diego in August 1945 for necessary repairs and refresher training before being ordered to Portland, Oregon, for inactive status with the Pacific Fleet Reserve.

- Population
- USS PC-614 crew; Jacksonville construction/commissioning personnel; Caribbean, San Francisco, San Pedro, San Diego, and Portland repair or reserve personnel, 1943-45.
- Limitations
- This primary operational-history document identifies no asbestos-containing material, product, repair material, survey, abatement, or crew exposure. Its final statement is contemporaneous to 1945 and does not establish later disposal, Mexican service, or present condition.

- Finding
- NavSource's page for PC-614 lists: laid down 7 July 1942 by Gibbs Gas Engine Co., Jacksonville, Florida; launched 23 December 1942; commissioned 7 July 1943; transferred to the War Shipping Administration in March 1948; transferred to Mexico in 1952 and named Guardacostas (GC 32); and struck from the Navy Register and scrapped in March 1964. Its specification block lists two 1,440-bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler R-99DA diesel engines, Westinghouse single-reduction gear, and two shafts; complement 65. The page states that no DANFS history is available for PC-614.

- Population
- Gibbs construction trades (1942-43); PC-614 crew; Mexican Navy personnel after 1952; shipbreakers reported in 1964.
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry. The commission date conflicts with NARA's 9 July 1943 statement; the primary NARA date is carried at top level and the conflict is retained in gaps. Specifications and disposal information need primary-source corroboration. The page identifies no asbestos-containing materials.

[4]Research result recorded in this vessel's 2026-10-03 search ledger; NARA NAID 77539317 and live NavSource PC-614 page reviewed, with official-source searches for a hull survey, abatement record, and DANFS/NHHC history. [other_primary]

- Finding
- No public ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, insulation inventory, or product-identification record was located for USS PC-614 in the reviewed authoritative-source sweep. NARA's ship-specific war history is operational only; NavSource likewise identifies no materials and states that no DANFS history is available. CourtListener litigation status remains unknown because the required searches did not complete.

- Research conducted 2026-10-03
- Limitations
- This is a documented research result, not proof that asbestos was absent from the hull. Firecrawl was unavailable because its shared keyless quota was exhausted; CourtListener's four required authenticated helper searches did not return results before the fleet pacing gate timed out, so litigation status is an open gap, not a negative finding.
