- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The official USCG war history records this hull as the primary control vessel for the USS Joseph T. Dickman (APA-13) landing group at Green Beach, Salerno Bay (Paestum), during the Salerno landings of 9 September 1943 (Operation Avalanche). Both the monograph narrative and Dickman's own action report state: 'The primary control vessel, PC-625, led the first three waves of boats from the rendezvous area, passed the restricted area marker boat PC-542, and proceeded on to the line of departure. All boats landed on the correct beach in excellent line and well spaced, but were ten minutes late in the scheduled time' - the delay attributed to the control boat being held up behind the minesweepers. PC-624 was the secondary control boat for the fourth wave.

- Class context for the PC-461 type: 173 ft 8 in steel-hulled patrol craft; 361 delivered of 421 ordered under the wartime patrol craft program at ~$1,600,000 each; complement 5 officers + 60 enlisted; two ~2,000-bhp-class diesels, ~21 knots; 45 hulls transferred under Lend-Lease including 33 to France; 35 PCs were converted to Patrol Craft - Control (PCC) for amphibious landing operations (extra communications equipment; hull numbers unchanged). The source does not list which hulls were converted; whether PC-625 was a formal PCC conversion is unstated - she performed the amphibious control-vessel role at Salerno (ev-03) while retaining the PC designation.

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A steel-hulled diesel patrol craft built May-September 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; period naval construction specifications and the wartime asbestos-supply reservation made asbestos-containing insulation, gaskets, packing, and electrical materials standard aboard small combatants. Era-standard applications aboard a PC-461-class craft: diesel exhaust lagging, machinery and piping insulation, gaskets and valve packing, electrical insulation, and interior insulation/joiner materials. Diesel direct-drive plant - no boilers or steam turbines, so the boiler/turbine lagging pathway does not apply.

CourtListener: 'USS PC-625' returned 0 opinions and 0 dockets; 'PC-625' returned 0 opinions and 83 dockets, all name collisions (Michigan probate form PC-625, PACER document identifiers, insurer names); the asbestos-qualified docket variant returned 9 unrelated bankruptcies/civil matters - no qualifying asbestos litigation naming the hull.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - 1942 naval construction is era-consistent with asbestos materials. The hull-number docket base query overflowed its 20-result page (83 hits), all collisions; the asbestos-qualified variant confirms no qualifying hull-name hit in the collision set. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
