[3]Shipbuilding History (Colton), 'W. A. Robinson, Ipswich MA' yard table - hull list entry for SC-760 and yard history [other_primary]
- Locator
- W. A. Robinson yard table, O.N. 254782 row; yard-history header paragraph
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The builder-yard table lists this hull as official number (O.N.) 254782, type 'Sub Chaser', 136 tons, 110 ft, delivered 10-Sep-42, disposition 'Later PCC 760, sold 1948 as Pacific Retriever'. Yard context: William A. Robinson, an engineer from Kenosha WI, bought an existing small shipyard on Fox Creek near Ipswich in 1937 to build wooden sailing vessels; wartime conversion produced 200+ vessels including small craft; the yard closed after the war and was razed.

- Secondary compiler (Colton shipbuilding-history tables), not a primary registry. - Finding
- A summary of USS PGM-3's official log records that on 16 September 1945 PGM-3 'was moored starboard side to SC-760 at the Minesweep Dock, Section Base, Katchin Hanto, Buckner Bay' as a typhoon approached ('barometer falling rapidly, typhoon mounting with violence'), and remained moored next to SC-760 through 17 September. - Finding
- NARA holds deck logs for SC-760 covering 10 September 1942 - 30 June 1945 (RG 24 Entry 118 log-coverage span; batch-spec verification). These are log-coverage dates, not commissioning or decommissioning dates - the coverage begins on her commissioning day because the log opens at commissioning, and ends 30 June 1945 because the series' digitized run stops there, while the ship demonstrably remained in service through at least September 1945 (SCC reclassification 20 Aug 1945; Buckner Bay mooring 16-17 Sep 1945).

- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A 148-ton wooden-hulled diesel submarine chaser built in 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era, but the asbestos-relevant scope for this type is narrow: no steam plant (diesel propulsion, 2 x GM 8-268A) eliminates the boiler/turbine-lagging pathway, and a wooden hull built at a small wooden-boat yard carried far less thermal insulation than a steel steam vessel. Era-consistent applications for a vessel of this type: diesel-exhaust and machinery insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation in machinery spaces and accommodation.

- Finding
- CORRECTION (identity): this hull is an SC-497-class 110-foot wooden submarine chaser - not a PC-461-class 173-foot steel patrol craft. Per the NavSource index history: WWII programs built both the new 110-ft wooden craft and the 173-ft steel type in the same general number series, and 'by 1943 it was felt desirable to differentiate between the two types - the type symbol PC was retained for the steel 173-footers, and the separate symbol SC was adopted for the 110-foot vessels' (the April 1943 reclassification). SC-760 was therefore commissioned PC-760 in Sept 1942 and reclassified SC-760 in April 1943 (the identical 'Commissioned USS PC-NNN / Reclassified SC-NNN in April 1943' line appears on NavSource pages across the class - verified on SC-497 and SC-500). NO STEEL PC-760 EVER EXISTED: the PC-461-class steel series ran PC-461 to PC-496, PC-542 to PC-627, PC-776 to PC-826, and PC-1077 to PC-1265 - the number 760 falls in the 627/776 gap and was held only by this wooden hull, so PC-760 = SC-760 = SCC-760 is a single-vessel identity with no hull collision. Control-craft conversions: the index documents redesignation to SC(C) and PC(C) retaining the same numbers (ship-page style SCC-760; shipbuildinghistory prints 'PCC 760' - a variant, PCC applying to steel-hull conversions).

- search_ledger rows sl-uss-pc-760-01 through sl-uss-pc-760-17
- Finding type

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS PC-760 / SC-760 / SCC-760 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener base queries run this session through the authenticated helper: 'SC-760' opinion search returned 5 hits, all name collisions (state-court docket numbers e.g. Ky. 2011-SC-000760-MR, Ala. 'SC 760', reporter-page citations); 'SC-760' docket search returned 32 loose term-match hits with no vessel-related case among the top 20 ranked; 'PC-760' opinion search returned 2 term-match results with no literal designation or vessel content. CAVEAT: the 'PC-760' docket query and 'SC-760' docket page 2 were still pending fleet pacing at write time (~15 concurrent batch sessions racing the shared ~58/hr budget) - see search_ledger and report for final status. Secondary web sweeps surfaced only law-firm marketing content (e.g. Simmons Firm 'list of ships with asbestos' page) asserting Navy-wide asbestos without hull-level sourcing - excluded by source policy.

- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - the hull's construction era and diesel plant sit inside the documented Navy asbestos era. Deck logs (RG 24 coverage through 1945-06-30) and any MARAD disposal card are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
