[2]NavSource Online, Submarine Chaser Photo Archive, PC-815 page (live URL verified 2026-10-03; page states no DANFS history is available) [other_primary]
- Locator

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The PC-815 page identifies this hull as a PC-461-class submarine chaser: laid down 10 October 1942 by Albina Engine and Machinery Works, Portland, Oregon; launched 5 December 1942; commissioned USS PC-815 on 20 April 1943. It states that USS Laffey (DD-724) collided with PC-815 in heavy fog off San Diego on 11 September 1945, that all but one crew member were rescued, that the hull was struck from the Naval Register on 11 October 1945, and that Navy divers demolished the wreck in early November 1945 as a navigation hazard.

- PC-815 crew; one crew member reported not rescued
- Limitations
- NavSource is an archival compilation rather than a Navy publication; its page supplies the cited hull history and points to National Archives photographs, but does not provide asbestos, materials, crew-exposure, or legal-eligibility information. The page says no DANFS history is available for PC-815.

[3]NavSource PC-815 specification block and NARA-captioned trial photograph entry [other_primary]
- Locator
- PC-815 page, specifications block and photograph table
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The page gives this hull's specifications as 450 tons displacement, 173 feet 8 inches length, 23-foot beam, 10-foot 10-inch draft, 20.2-knot speed, and complement 65. It identifies two 1,440-bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler R-99DA diesel engines, Westinghouse single-reduction gear, and two shafts. The page also lists a 13 April 1943 Columbia River running-trials photograph as a National Archives photograph.

- Population
- PC-815 construction and operating crew
- Limitations
- The specification block is not a surviving-hull survey and does not identify insulation or other asbestos-containing products. It supports propulsion and vessel identity only; no ship-specific asbestos inference is made from the diesel machinery.

[4]NavSource PC-815 page, PC-461-class designation and propulsion specifications [other_primary]
- Locator
- PC-815 page, class designation and propulsion lines
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Class/era context only: a steel-hulled PC-461-class submarine chaser built in 1942 with twin diesel propulsion falls within the period in which Navy vessels commonly used asbestos insulation and related products. For a diesel small craft, plausible applications include machinery or exhaust insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation; no boiler or steam-pipe lagging pathway is established for this hull.

- Population
- 1942-1945 construction and Navy operating personnel
- Limitations
- This is an inference from class, construction era, hull type, and propulsion, not documentation that asbestos was installed aboard PC-815. It does not establish product identity, quantity, location, remaining material, exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

- Locator
- GAO HRD-80-2 product page
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO's Navy program review is context for the Navy's historical use and later management of asbestos insulation in shipyard work; it does not name PC-815 or establish materials aboard this hull.

[6]Accessible-source search and four-query CourtListener sweep ledger for this record [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-pc-815-pc815-01 through sl-uss-pc-815-pc815-06
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the accessible non-CourtListener sources searched. The required CourtListener exact-name opinion, exact-name docket, hull-number opinion, and hull-number docket requests were submitted through the authenticated helper, but the fleet pacing limiter reported its request budget was momentarily spent before returning results; litigation status therefore remains unresolved rather than negative.

- Limitations
- A failed or pacing-blocked search is not a no-result search. This row does not establish that no litigation exists. It records the accessible-source negative finding and the CourtListener gap; no asylum, exposure, product, causation, merits, or legal-eligibility conclusion may be drawn.
