- Finding
- LST-1089 was laid down at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, by American Bridge Co. on 1944-12-20; launched 1945-02-17; and commissioned 1945-03-28. After Far East occupation duty she was decommissioned 1946-08-16, recommissioned 1950-09-06, and served in Korea and later in the Far East and eastern Pacific. She was redesignated Rice County (LST-1089) on 1955-07-01, decommissioned 1960-03-09, transferred to the West German Navy in October 1960 as Bochum (N-120), struck 1960-11-01, and later sold by the United States to the Turkish Navy in December 1972 as Sanlaktar (A-580). DANFS credits the ship with four Korean-War battle stars.

- Archived OSHA rulemaking, shipyard-industry discussion stating OSHA's belief regarding ships delivered before 1975
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- In its 1994 asbestos rulemaking, OSHA stated its belief that all ships delivered before 1975 contain extensive asbestos insulation. Rice County was delivered to Navy service in 1945, placing it within that delivery-era context.

- Pre-1975 ship delivery era (context only)
- Limitations
- This is OSHA's broad delivery-era statement, not a survey, construction specification, or materials record naming LST-1089. It does not establish that asbestos was installed, retained, disturbed, or present aboard this hull; it does not establish quantity, location, condition, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility. The live OSHA page returned HTTP 403 from this research environment, so the live archived copy is labeled archived.

[4]Batch-6577 search ledger for this record: archived NHHC DANFS review; NARA Navy-logbook guide; authenticated CourtListener helper attempts [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-rice-county-lst1089-01 through sl-uss-rice-county-lst1089-06
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the completed DANFS and NARA-guide review: the DANFS entry contains no asbestos, insulation-material, abatement, survey, product, or exposure finding. The authenticated CourtListener name-and-hull sweep did not return results because each of four helper-script requests timed out after authentication/request initiation; it therefore cannot be counted as a no-result litigation search.

- Limitations
- This is a limited negative research result, not proof that asbestos was absent and not a completed CourtListener no-result. CourtListener returned neither hit data nor a throttle/wait instruction before the 30-second helper transport timeout; no litigation classification can be made from those attempts.

- Locator
- NARA Navy-logbooks research guide; related Department of the Navy Records guide https://www.archives.gov/research/military/navy
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- Archival lead: NARA identifies U.S. Navy logbooks as a research resource and notes that the National Archives preserves Department of the Navy records. LST-1089 deck logs and related Navy records are a lead for ship-specific operations and possible maintenance documentation; no box-, folder-, or page-level Rice County material was retrieved in this research pass.
