    Limitations
NavSource is a secondary volunteer compilation, not a primary record - used here for the stricken/fate facts the DANFS entry (ending 1971) does not cover; all build/commission dates corroborate DANFS. Final-decommission date conflicts exist (NavSource 1964-06-05; DANFS 'June 1964'; Wikipedia/uboat.net 1964-04-01) - carried in gaps.

BVA Citation 0932544 text - DD-214 recital, hearing-testimony summary, 'exposure to asbestos is conceded' sentence, FINDING OF FACT and ORDER
    Finding type

    Finding
Adjudicated administrative decision naming this hull: the veteran's DD-Form 214 shows service aboard USS Robinson DD-562 October 1953 - September 1957 (deck force painting, then mess cook). He testified the 1940s-built ship had asbestos 'all over,' that fibers fell onto his top-bunk mattress in his sleeping quarters ('fibers would be falling down on the bed stinging him'), and that he breathed asbestos fibers while chipping paint. The Board found exposure conceded ('Based on the Veteran's testimony, which is consistent with service records; the type of ship on which he served; and the duties he performed, exposure to asbestos is conceded'), entered a finding of fact that 'the Veteran was exposed to asbestos in service and has pleural plaques as a result of asbestos exposure,' and ORDERED service connection granted for a lung disorder in the form of pleural plaques secondary to asbestos exposure (claimed as asbestosis).

    Population
Single Navy veteran (deck force/mess cook) aboard USS Robinson DD-562, 1953-1957
    Limitations
VA administrative adjudication - a merits-level grant within VA, not Article III litigation. Exposure conceded on lay testimony consistent with service records and duties; the decision does not identify asbestos product manufacturers, does not inventory or quantify ACM aboard, does not establish exposure for anyone else aboard, and does not adjudicate the hull's material content as such. One claimant's decision; post-service carpenter/millwright exposure was noted but did not defeat the in-service finding. Not a ship survey.

    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
CourtListener exact-name sweep resolved: the only two docket-level 'USS Robinson' hits are NAME COLLISIONS naming a different hull. Siegfried (C.D. Cal.) removal papers list alleged exposure sites for a Long Beach Naval Shipyard electrician (1969-1996) including 'USS Robinson (DDG-12)' - hull number printed in the list. Banks (C.D. Cal.) first amended complaint jobsite table lists 'USS Robinson ... 1982-1984 ... DDG-12' for a Navy machinist mate. DDG-12 is USS Robison (Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer, in service 1961-1991), misspelled 'Robinson' in both filings; DD-562 was decommissioned 1964, stricken 1974, and sunk April 1982 - the dates and hull number exclude this hull. Neither case is qualifying litigation for DD-562.

    Finding
Era/design inference: a Fletcher-class destroyer built 1942-44 with the documented four-boiler 60,000-shp geared-steam plant falls squarely inside the Navy's documented peak asbestos-use era (GAO HRD-80-2: substitution not begun until the early 1970s). Period-standard asbestos applications for this plant type were boiler and steam-line insulation, turbine lagging, gaskets, packing, fireproofing, and deck coverings.

    Limitations
Class/era inference only - NOT an independent hull-specific finding; the ship-specific finding for this hull is ev-03 (BVA decision). Does not identify manufacturers or quantify material aboard DD-562. Builder Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp. has no shipyards.json slug - carried in gaps rather than force-mapped.

Beyond the BVA decision (ev-03), no additional qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no hull ACM survey or material specification, no abatement record (hull sunk as target 1982 - no abatement or museum phase exists), no Article III asbestos opinion or docket adjudicating exposure aboard this hull, and no NVR record (pre-1987 disposal). CourtListener 'USS Robinson'/'DD-562' docket hits all resolved as DDG-12 name collisions or unrelated numeric identifiers.
