    Finding
NARA Special List No. 44, arranged by ship number, indexes USS SC-519 logbooks from 21 April 1942 through 27 March 1944. The index establishes a documented U.S. Navy record interval for the hull but does not describe the boat, its equipment, its transfer recipient, or any asbestos material.

    Limitations
A NARA index, not the underlying deck logs. It supports only the indexed record interval; it does not establish commissioning, construction, transfer details, asbestos content, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

Hull-page chronology beneath 'SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser'
    Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
The live NavSource hull archive identifies SC-519 as an SC-497-class submarine chaser, laid down 2 June 1941 by Vinyard Shipbuilding Co. at Milford, Delaware; launched 14 March 1942; commissioned as USS PC-519 on 21 April 1942; reclassified SC-519 in April 1943; and transferred to France as CH-83 on 27 March 1944. The same archive reports redesignation CH-720 in 1950, removal from the French Navy Register in 1956, and an unknown fate.

    Limitations
NavSource is a naval-history photo/archive source, not an official Navy vessel register, and the reviewed official NARA index independently corroborates only the 21 April 1942–27 March 1944 U.S. record interval. This source contains no asbestos, equipment-material, survey, abatement, or exposure statement.

"USS SC-519" opinion: HTTP 200, count 0, next null (2026-10-06). "USS SC-519" docket: HTTP 200, count 0, document_count 0, next null (2026-10-06). "SC-519" opinion: HTTP 200, count 18, next null; all 18 case names/dockets reviewed and classified as docket-number collisions (2026-10-06). "SC-519" docket: one HTTP 200 response observed (count 21, document_count 30, next page present) but payload not retained; subsequent attempts hit fleet pacing (exit 2).

    Finding
CourtListener authenticated sweep completed 2026-10-06 via /Users/charlesfletcher/devin-prompts/cl-auth-search.py (limit 20, all four base queries attempted). Results: "USS SC-519" opinion = 0 results (clean negative); "USS SC-519" docket = 0 results (clean negative); "SC-519" opinion = 18 results, all non-qualifying name collisions (Kentucky Supreme Court docket numbers of form YYYY-SC-000519-MR/DG, Indiana Court of Appeals 45A03-1603-SC-519, Alabama SC 519, Georgia numeric dockets — the query term appears in judicial docket-number or case metadata, never as the naval hull, and no result is asbestos litigation concerning this vessel). "SC-519" docket returned count=21 on one attempt but case names could not be extracted before fleet-wide pacing blocked further requests; those 21 hits are unreviewed and owed, not classified.

    Limitations
The two exact-name searches are verified zero-result sweeps for this hull. The hull-number opinion search is a reviewed non-qualifying name-collision result, not a negative finding about litigation generally. The hull-number docket search (21 hits observed once) is an access gap — unreviewed, not classified, owed for backfill. No asbestos finding, exposure finding, causation conclusion, or legal-eligibility conclusion may be drawn from this row.

Bureau of Ships General, Confidential, and Secret Correspondence; private-shipyard filing discussion
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
NARA's research guide states that ship-specific asbestos research should begin with vessel history and then examine Bureau of Ships Record Group 19 correspondence. For a private yard, the guide directs researchers to contractor/manufacturer filing designations and says those files should include correspondence between the Bureau of Ships and the yard.

    Limitations
Research guidance only. No RG 19 box, file, construction specification, repair record, or correspondence for SC-519 or Vinyard Shipbuilding was retrieved; the guide does not establish asbestos aboard this hull.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
The reviewed NARA logbook index and NavSource hull archive contain no statement identifying asbestos, an asbestos-containing product, a material survey, abatement, or an exposure event aboard USS PC-519/SC-519. No ship-specific asbestos documentation is therefore carried in this record.

    Limitations
Absence from the limited reviewed public sources does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. CourtListener was not completed and underlying logs/RG 19 construction or repair records were not surveyed; this row does not establish presence or absence, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.
