- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its milestones generally track BuShips/DANFS data but are transcribed, not authoritative. No asbestos content. 'Fate unknown' is the archivist's statement of the record's limit, not a documented loss. Spec figures conflict with the Wikipedia class table on displacement and draft (see gaps).

[3]DANFS, Sentinel III (AM-113) - Sicily invasion narrative naming SC-530 in the rescue of the bombed minesweeper's crew, 10 July 1943 [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS Sentinel III entry, 10 July 1943 narrative paragraphs
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS documents SC-530 in combat rescue during the Sicily landings (Operation Husky): with USS Sentinel (AM-113) bombed and mortally listing off Licata on 10 July 1943, the minesweeper's emergency radio traffic 'brought SC-530, LCI-33, and PC-550 to her assistance at the utmost speed. After the more seriously wounded had been evacuated on LCI-33 and SC-530, it became apparent that the ship would not remain afloat.' Sentinel capsized at 1030 and sank at 1045. SC-530's role: evacuating the seriously wounded from a sinking warship under combat conditions.

Dickman (APA-13), British infantry landing ship Empire Gauntlet (F.123), and submarine chasers PC-1176, PC-1261, and SC-530, joined the column ahead (not in order) off Plymouth at 1340' on 5 June 1944, steaming with the force screening Assault Convoy U1A for the Western Naval Task Force Area (Utah Beach).

- navalmarinearchive.com/sbh/shipyards/small/westergard.html, production table row SC 530; also shipbuildinghistory.com/shipyards/small/westergard.htm (same table)
- Finding type

- Finding
- Yard-production table documents this hull as a Westergard product: 'SC 530, US Navy, Sub Chaser, 136d [tons], 12-May-42, To Free French 1944 as CH 115' - corroborating the builder, the May 1942 completion, and the French transfer. Sister SC hulls in the same table (SC 497, SC 498, SC 531, SC 650, SC 651, SC 654, SC 655) document the Rockport TX construction site's wartime output; the table notes the first two were 'Built in Rockport TX.' Company background: formed 1940 by W. P. Kennedy Jr. (of the Kennedy Engine Company family) and A. M. Westergard, home yard at the foot of Lee Street on Biloxi's Back Bay.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A wooden-hulled, diesel-powered 110-foot submarine chaser built 1941-42 carries no steam plant - the boiler, steam-drum, and steam-line lagging pathway that dominated shipboard asbestos mass does not apply to this type. Era-standard asbestos applications aboard small diesel combatants of this period were concentrated in the engine spaces: diesel-exhaust and machinery lagging, engine and pipe gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation; wooden-hull construction carried a materially smaller asbestos-relevant plant than contemporary steel steam vessels.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming SC-530/PC-530/CH-115 was found in the public sources searched. CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated helper returned exit 2 ('fleet-wide request budget momentarily spent', ~58/hr pacing on the 1,400/day account quota) on three spaced attempts; logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced only law-firm marketing listicles asserting patrol-craft asbestos without primary sourcing (excluded by source policy) and an unrelated name collision: 'SC-530' is the Dutch asbestos-removal certification standard.

- Finding
- CORRECTION: PC-530 never existed as a PC-461-class patrol craft. This hull was an SC-497-class wooden submarine chaser commissioned under the PC hull number PC-530 (12 May 1942) and reclassified to SC-530 in April 1943 - one of a block of SC-497-class hulls that entered service under PC numbers and were reclassified to SC numbers the same month (NavSource 'ex-PC-' pattern across the class). Records styled 'PC-530' and 'SC-530' refer to the same single hull; the PC-461-class numbering skips this block.
