    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its milestone dates generally track NVR/DANFS but transfer-date conflicts exist (4 June here vs 5 June in Russell's appendix and uboat.net - see gaps). Page carries a template artifact: the flag line reads 'SC-634 served the Navies of the United States and the Soviet Union,' a copy-over from a sister-ship page, though the statement is true of this hull as well. Contains no asbestos content.

    Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
Russell's appendix lists this hull: SC660 -> BO-311, in the 5 June 1945 transfer group (with SC-657/BO-307, SC-663/BO-318, SC-673/BO-316, SC-713/BO-313, SC-986/BO-305, SC-1021/BO-312, SC-1060/BO-317), disposition '1956-stricken.' Narrative: Project Hula secretly transferred 149 U.S. Navy ships to Soviet custody at Cold Bay, Alaska, in the spring and summer of 1945, with Soviet crews trained by Navy Detachment 3294; wooden-hulled subchasers and motor minesweepers frequently suffered hull damage en route, nine subchasers making the ~400-mile round trip to Dutch Harbor for major repairs; subchaser training was delayed eight days. On returns: of the 149 vessels received at Cold Bay, the Soviet navy returned only 27 frigates and 15 LCI(L)s; the U.S. accepted 'witnessed destruction' for some vessels, with 59 destroyed in the Barents Sea near Murmansk and 20 at Nakhodka in 1956; a satisfactory settlement for 343 vessels was concluded in spring 1957 and the final lend-lease settlement (Settlement of Lend Lease, Reciprocal Aid and Claims) on 18 October 1972.

    Limitations
Official Naval Historical Center monograph - the authoritative published account of the transfer program. The appendix 'Disposition' column records Soviet-service disposition ('1956-stricken'), not a U.S. striking action; no U.S.-side striking date for this hull is given anywhere in the source. Transfer-date column gives 5 June for this group while NavSource and the Russian compilation give 4 June (Soviet-crew acceptance) - one-day discrepancy logged in gaps. The page's SC-497 class summary block: displacement 98 tons; length 110'10"; beam 17'; draft 6'6"; speed 20 knots; armament 1x3"/50, 2x2 .50-cal. mg; complement 2 officers, 20 enlisted; diesel engines, twin screws, 1,200 shaft hp.

Compilation-level entry naming the hull in a range row ('SC-660-661') - confirms existence and disposition category only; no individual service narrative. Class spec figures (98 tons, 20 kts, 22 complement, 3"/50 armament, 1,200 shp) differ from NavSource's ship-page spec block (148 t., 21 kts, 28, 40mm fit, 2x1,540 bhp) - standard-vs-full-load displacement and early-fit vs wartime-fit differences; logged in gaps rather than resolved. Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
This hull was commissioned 28 September 1942 under the designation USS PC-660 and reclassified SC-660 in April 1943. The pattern is block-level across the neighboring SC-497 hulls: SC-659 ('delivered 7 October 1942 and commissioned USS PC-659; reclassified SC-659 in April 1943'), SC-661 ('commissioned USS PC-661, 26 October 1942; reclassified SC-661 in April 1943'), SC-662 ('delivered 10 June 1942 and commissioned USS PC-662; reclassified SC-662 in April 1943'). The PC-461-class numbering block 628-669 was reserved for these SC hulls; 'PC-660' was an administrative designation worn for roughly the first six months of service, not a PC-461-class vessel identity.

USN crew during the PC-660 designation window (Sep 1942 - Apr 1943)
    Limitations
Corrects a naming trap: this hull never existed as a PC-461-class steel-hulled patrol craft, and sources or indexes listing 'PC-660' as a patrol craft are recording the brief administrative designation of an SC-497-class wooden subchaser. No ship was concurrently numbered PC-660 in the PC-461 class. Reclassification month ('April 1943') is as stated by NavSource for all listed sisters; an exact day is not given. No asbestos content.

    Limitations
Secondary compilations (a Russian-language reference site and Colton's shipbuildinghistory table), not primary registries - carried at partial verification as corroboration of the Russell appendix's '1956-stricken' disposition and NavSource's 11 July 1956 out-of-service date. sewar.ru's '1.10.1942' entry-into-service date differs by three days from the US commissioning date of 28 Sep 1942, and its parenthetical 'until 10.01.1945' former-name cutoff predates the June 1945 transfer - an unexplained quirk not propagated here. scrapping location/contractor unrecorded. Finding
GAO documented Navy-wide asbestos use and the Navy's insulation-removal policies of the asbestos era: the 1975 policy removed/replaced only damaged insulation or that required for repairs, modified in 1979 to selectively replace asbestos insulation in high-maintenance areas. Program-level confirmation that asbestos insulation was standard in Navy ships of the era - the same era in which this hull was built (1941-42) and served (1942-45).

Program-level documentation only: GAO fieldwork yards were Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards; the report does not name this hull, this class, or this builder. Era context establishing the background asbestos environment in Navy shipbuilding, not evidence about SC-660 itself. A wooden-hulled 110-foot diesel subchaser carried materially less asbestos scope than the steam-driven combatants the policy concerned - no boilers, turbines, or steam piping aboard. Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era construction practice and the GAO-documented Navy-wide asbestos environment make residual era material plausible. Equally, this 110-foot wooden diesel craft had a materially narrower asbestos scope than steam vessels. The hull was scrapped under Soviet disposal in 1956; Soviet-side material records are not accessible. CourtListener status is recorded separately in the search_ledger (blocked vs no-result as applicable). Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.

    Finding
This hull's 1942-45 deck logs should exist in NARA Record Group 24 (Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships and Stations) but no digitized file unit for SC-660 was located; the catalog is JS-rendered and could not be queried via public API in this session. Deck logs are the open lead for her undocumented US-service assignments (1942-45) and her routing to Cold Bay for the June 1945 transfer. Soviet-service records (BO-311 war diary, flag assignments, disposal file) would rest in Russian naval archives and were not searched.
