NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates here are corroborated by the official 1945 Ships' Data per-hull row (ev-02) and the Flynn USCG register (ev-03). Primary official register as of 15 April 1945: establishes builder, keel/launch/commission dates, engine plant, wood-hull construction, and that the hull's number existed within the PC-628-775 block reclassified wholesale to SC. Does not document the hull's own commissioning designation (NavSource supplies 'commissioned USS PC-662'). Predates the October 1945 USCG transfer and November 1945 striking. USCG register row for this hull: 'WAVR 424 | Air Goose | ex. SC-662 | 23Oct1945 | Sold 11Mar1948' - confirms Coast Guard entry-into-service 23 October 1945 and sale 11 March 1948. Program context documented by Flynn: surplus USN 110-foot wooden submarine chasers were stripped of armament for air-sea-rescue duty; postwar demobilization left few crewed - 'very few WAVR's actually entered full service, but instead were placed "In Commission in Reserve" with a two man skeleton crew of care takers'; 'By 1947 all of the 70 WAVR's were Decommissioned Awaiting Disposal.' Flynn cites DANFS and 1945 Ships Data U.S. Naval Vessels for the WAVR table dimensions.

The WAVR per-hull row gives only dates - no station, no operational record for Air Goose; whether she ever left caretaker status is undocumented (program-level shortage context applies class-wide, not provably to this hull). Flynn is a retired-USCGR historian's register hosted on the official media.defense.gov server, not a live USCG database. All survivors were picked-up shortly after by SC-1023 and SC-662' - lost-at-sea roll of 15 (12 USMM incl. master Lawrence Gallagher; 3 USN armed guards).

    Finding
A wooden-hulled diesel submarine chaser built 1941-42 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era, but the exposure envelope is far narrower than for steel combatants: the official register confirms wood construction and a diesel-only plant, so there is no boiler lagging, no turbine lagging, and no sprayed structural fireproofing pathway. Credible era-standard asbestos applications aboard a diesel SC were limited to exhaust/manifold lagging on the engine exhaust lines, gaskets and valve packing in machinery, and electrical insulation - none confirmed aboard this hull.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS SC-662, PC-662, or USCGC Air Goose (WAVR-424) was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener queries completed this session returned no qualifying litigation: 'SC-662' opinion index - 14 state-court name collisions matching reporter/statute citation strings; 'SC-662' docket index - 25 hits of the same collision pattern (page overflow; the authorized 'SC-662' asbestos docket variant ran and returned 0); 'USS SC-662' opinion - count 0. Only the exact-name 'USS SC-662' docket query remained pace-limited - logged pending, not a negative result; its outcome is bounded as a strict subset of the completed collision-only hull-number docket set. No law-firm listicle or marketing page asserting asbestos aboard this hull was surfaced either - a genuinely thin web presence.

    Finding
CORRECTION (designation precision): batch re-scope stated 'PC-662 never existed as a PC vessel (PC-461 class numbering skips the 628-669 SC block).' The underlying truth is more precise on both ends: (1) the official register shows the whole PC-628-775 block - not only 628-669 - was reclassified to SC-628-775, and blocks PC-497-541 likewise became SC-497-541, so no PC-461-class 173-foot steel patrol craft ever held number 662; (2) but the designation PC-662 was in fact carried by this wooden hull - NavSource documents delivery and commissioning as USS PC-662 on 10 June 1942 with reclassification to SC-662 in April 1943. 'PC-662' is therefore correct as this hull's commissioning designation and wrong as a PC-461-class vessel claim.
