- Documented for this hull: Winnemucca is 'a city in northwestern Nevada situated on the Humboldt River... the seat of government for Humboldt County.' PC-1145 'was laid down on 2 June 1943 at Bay City, Mich., by the Defoe Shipbuilding Corp.; launched on 27 October 1943; and commissioned at New Orleans, La., on 1 June 1944, Lt. Joseph L. Hoguet, D-V(G), USNR, in command.' Shakedown completed 11 June 1944, then a year of Gulf of Mexico / Atlantic-seaboard antisubmarine patrol and coastwise convoy escort from New York City to the Panama Canal Zone. Assigned to the Pacific Fleet after V-E Day: departed Miami early June 1945 via the Panama Canal; repairs at San Diego; departed San Diego 15 July, arrived Pearl Harbor 21 July; arrived Eniwetok 13 August (hostilities ceased the next day); over a year of western-Pacific service - Marshalls/Carolines patrol and escort, a Japan round-trip 7 September-5 October, a Wake Island round-trip in late October, then station search-and-rescue ship at Majuro from November. Departed Majuro mid-February 1946 for extensive maintenance at Guam (repairs complete 16 June); four-month Western Carolines inspection tour carrying U.S. Commercial Company representatives; first complete overhaul at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard 21 November-23 December 1946; air search-and-rescue ship at Midway from 4 March 1947 (relieved by PC-1172 on 13 May) and again from late July (relieved by PCS-1399 on 15 November 1947); thereafter alternated Pearl Harbor duty with air SAR at Midway, Kwajalein, Johnston Island, Guam, and Samoa (Guam and Samoa ceased to be stations after 1950). Departed Pearl Harbor for the last time 19 February 1955; nearly four months of repairs at Treasure Island; placed out of commission at Astoria, Oregon, 15 August 1955; berthed with the Columbia River Group, Pacific Reserve Fleet; named Winnemucca 15 February 1956 while inactive; struck from the Navy list 1 June 1960; transferred to the Navy of the Republic of Korea 1 November (1960). Spec block: dp. 280; l. 173'8"; b. 23'0"; dr. 10'10"; s. 20.2 k. (trial); cpl. 65; a. 1 3", 1 40mm., 3 20mm., 2 dct., 4 dcp. (K-guns), 2 dcp. (Mousetrap); cl. PC-461.

Call sign NGZP. Commanding-officer table lists six officers from Lt. Joseph L. Hoguet (1 June 1944-December 1944) through Lt. Charles Thomas Hampton (October 1954-15 August 1955), and photographs show the hull at Pearl Harbor c. 1951-1954 - both corroborating continuous service through August 1955. The page's timeline row 'Decommissioned 15 February 1946 at Astoria, Oregon' is erroneous - contradicted by DANFS and by this same page's CO table and 1951-54 photographs (see ev-07). - Finding type

- Finding
- Documented for this hull via a sister DANFS entry: Blower 'left Key West on 10 October, bound for the Panama Canal and the Pacific. Early the next morning, during a heavy rain squall, PC-1145 collided with the submarine. No one on either ship suffered any injuries, but PC-1145's bow was smashed back to the first water-tight bulkhead. Blower suffered a hole in her bow buoyancy tank, damage to her sail, and a sheared blade on her starboard propeller.' Documents a bow-repair event aboard this hull in October 1944 during the Gulf/Atlantic escort period.

- Finding
- The official 1953 Awards Manual eligibility table lists 'PC 1145 | 15 Sep - 25 Nov 45 | A |' - i.e., personnel serving aboard this hull qualified for the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia clasp for the period 15 September - 25 November 1945. This is a service-presence record: it places the hull on qualifying duty in the western-Pacific occupation area during September-November 1945, consistent with the DANFS narrative (Japan voyage 7 September-5 October; Wake Island round-trip late October; Majuro station-SAR assignment from November).

- Finding
- CORRECTION: secondary sources carry an erroneous 15 February 1946 decommissioning at Astoria for this hull. DANFS documents that in mid-February 1946 PC-1145 was in the Marshall Islands (departing Majuro for Guam maintenance), that she remained in continuous commission through her 1946 PHNSY overhaul, 1947 Midway SAR tours, and alternating Pearl Harbor / western-Pacific SAR duty, and was placed out of commission at Astoria on 15 August 1955. NavSource's own page corroborates 1955: the CO table runs to 15 August 1955 and the photographs are dated c. 1951-1954 at Pearl Harbor. The correct out-of-commission date is 15 August 1955; the '15 February 1946' figure is likely a transposition of the 15 February naming date (1956) onto a wrong year.

- Finding
- GAO reviewed the Navy's efforts to protect workers from asbestos exposure at the Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards, including 'the use of asbestos in Navy ships, the cost of removing asbestos from Navy ships, and compensation programs for asbestos-related disabilities.' Per the product page, the Navy's 1975 policy was to remove and replace with nonasbestos materials only damaged insulation or insulation removed for necessary repairs, modified in 1979 to selectively replace asbestos insulation in high-maintenance areas - documenting that asbestos insulation was present aboard Navy ships well after this hull's 1943 construction and through her U.S. service era (1944-1955 active; reserve 1955-1960).

- Finding
- A steel-hulled PC-461-class patrol craft built in 1943 at Defoe sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a diesel-driven patrol craft of this period were machinery and exhaust lagging, gaskets, valve packing, thermal insulation in accommodation and magazine spaces, electrical insulation, and deck coverings. As a diesel vessel she carried no boilers or steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.

CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the authenticated API returned a daily-quota-exhausted response (~3.5 h server-directed wait); logged as blocked in search_ledger, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no case or BVA decision naming this hull; the only 'asbestos' material touching the class or builder is law-firm marketing content (mesothelioma.net, mesotheliomalawyercenter.org, mesothelioma.com, mesowatch.org, asbestos-ships.com, leewdavis.com, elglaw.com Defoe-shipyard and patrol-craft pages) asserting asbestos use without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.
