- Finding
- NHHC identifies Yarborough (DD-314) as a Clemson-class destroyer laid down at Bethlehem Shipbuilding's Union Iron Works plant on 27 February 1919, launched on 20 June 1919, designated DD-314 on 17 July 1920, and commissioned on 31 December 1920. Its specification block gives a complement of 122. The history records Mare Island and San Diego drydock periods, decommissioning on 29 May 1930, striking on 3 November 1930, scrapping on 20 December 1930, and sale of remains on 25 February 1932.

- Ship history and specification source only. Drydocking and repair entries do not describe materials, asbestos work, worker exposure, or product manufacturers. The complement is a design figure, not a verified roster for any date.

- Section 050-7.2.7, 'Handling and Removal of Asbestos Materials'
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- NAVSEA's inactive-ships manual states that past Navy shipbuilding programs used asbestos extensively for installations including thermal insulation and deck tile. This is general historical Navy context; the manual does not identify DD-314, its builder, the Clemson class, or a 1919-1930 installation.

- Limitations
- Published decades after DD-314 was scrapped and not specific to the Clemson class or the ship's service years. It cannot establish that asbestos was installed or encountered on DD-314, identify a product, or support an exposure or causation claim.

- General Information Books (RG 19 Entry P 9); Cartographic Branch, Hull Series S39/S48; 'Other Records and their usefulness'
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA identifies RG 19 Entry P 9 destroyer general information books (1907-1961), ship engineering drawings arranged by hull number and material group (including S39 insulation and lagging and S48 piping where present), and specification files as potential research paths. The guide says deck logs and muster rolls do not directly document asbestos. No DD-314 drawing, general information book, or specification was obtained for this batch.

- Limitations
- A guide to record series, not a DD-314 record or a finding of asbestos aboard the ship. The guide concentrates on 1941-1961; series dates overlap this hull but holdings and contents for DD-314 require archival confirmation.

- Full DANFS ship entry; official-source search ledger sl-uss-yarborough-dd314-04
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The ship-specific NHHC DANFS history identifies DD-314's construction and several repair or drydock periods but does not identify asbestos, asbestos-containing products, an asbestos survey, abatement, or exposure. Indexed searches of official NHHC, NARA, and NAVSEA pages for this hull did not locate a DD-314 asbestos-specific record.

- Limitations
- This is a bounded negative search finding, not a proof of absence. Unindexed, nondigitized, or unexamined archival files may contain DD-314 material information; no inference about actual asbestos presence or absence follows.
