    Finding
NavSource's individual YMS-116 page identifies this hull as a YMS-1 class auxiliary motor minesweeper laid down 26 June 1941 by San Diego Marine Construction Co., San Diego, California; launched 20 April 1942; completed 31 October 1942; and struck from the Naval Register 15 August 1946. It states that the vessel was transferred to the War Shipping Administration in February 1947 and that its fate is unknown. The page gives a 270-ton displacement, 136-foot length, 24-foot 6-inch beam, 8-foot draft, 15-knot speed, complement of 32, and two General Motors 8-268A diesel engines on two shafts.

San Diego Marine Construction trades (1941-42); U.S. Navy YMS-116 crew (1942-46); War Shipping Administration custody (1947)
    Limitations
NavSource is a secondary photo-archive compilation rather than an official Navy register. It supports the displayed hull identity, builder, milestones, disposition, and specifications, but does not provide a distinct commissioning date, asbestos information, survey, abatement record, or exposure evidence. The page says no DANFS history is available for YMS-116.

    Finding
National Archives Special List #44, by Ship Numbers, indexes deck-log coverage for YMS-116 in three intervals: 31 October 1942 through 31 December 1942; 1 April 1943 through 30 April 1943; and 1 July 1943 through 30 June 1945. The finding aid establishes indexed Navy deck-log coverage for this hull; it does not establish the contents of those logs or any commissioning or decommissioning date.

    YMS-116 deck-log records
    Limitations
This is a finding-aid index, not the deck logs themselves. It establishes cataloged coverage intervals only; it does not establish the logs' completeness, digitization status, service events, materials, asbestos content, or exposure. The dates are record coverage dates, not claimed commissioning or decommissioning dates.

RG 24 permanent-records and College Park holdings guidance
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
National Archives deck-log guidance states that deck logs of commissioned Navy ships are permanent records in Record Group 24 and that 1941-and-later logs are generally held at College Park, Maryland. The guidance provides the archival record path for the YMS-116 intervals indexed in Special List #44, but the underlying logs were not reviewed in this pass.

    Limitations
Record-path guidance only. It does not prove that the indexed YMS-116 logs are digitized, complete, or accessible online, and it contains no asbestos, material, or exposure finding.

    Finding
No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, product-identification record, or qualifying asbestos-litigation record was located in the sources reviewed for this batch. Ship-specific asbestos documentation for YMS-116 is unknown.

    Limitations
This is a bounded search result, not proof that no record exists. The NARA finding aid and deck-log guidance do not expose the underlying log contents, NavSource contains no asbestos information, and the CourtListener helper returned fleet pacing stand-downs before any of the four mandatory base queries could return an HTTP result. No inference from class, construction era, wooden hull, or diesel propulsion is used to claim or deny asbestos aboard this hull.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying asbestos-litigation finding was established in this pass. The approved authenticated CourtListener helper was invoked for all four mandatory base queries: exact-name opinion ("USS YMS-116"), exact-name docket ("USS YMS-116"), hull-number opinion ("YMS-116"), and hull-number docket ("YMS-116"). The fleet-wide pacing gate returned a stand-down before any query produced an HTTP result. No asbestos-qualified variants were run because no base query returned a 20-result overflow.

    CourtListener opinion and docket index
    Limitations
This is an access-limited litigation sweep, not a zero-result finding. The helper reported that the fleet-wide request budget was momentarily spent and instructed the session not to retry in a loop. All four required base queries were invoked but none returned an HTTP result; no asbestos-qualified variants were authorized or run. No litigation stage is assigned because no qualifying case hit was retrieved.
