- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates generally track official sources and the registry trail cites merchant documentation, but dates rest on secondary transcription. Contains no asbestos content. The merchant-registry entries (Einstoss No. 14 / Chum, abandonment dates) are transcribed without their underlying register citations reproduced here.

- Contemporaneous launch-day coverage: 'Traditional launching rites were conducted in the grand manner as the YMS-133, YMS-125, YMS-129 and YMS-130 were given to the waters of Puget Sound at half hour intervals' on 18 December 1941, with ceremonies at the Western Boatbuilding Co., the J. M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corp., and the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. 'The final event, conducted at the same yards [Tacoma company's], was launching of the YMS-130, which was sponsored by Virginia Mojean, daughter of Boatbuilder Bill Mojean, who is collaborating with all three boatyards in production of the navy vessels.' A reception followed at the University-Union club.

- Finding
- NARA holds the deck log of this hull: entry 'YMS-130 8/27/1942 4/1/1946' in the ship-number listing of Special List 44 - logbook coverage beginning four days before commissioning and ending with the strike month, spanning essentially the entire naval service. The logs are part of 'Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships and Stations' (RG 24 Bureau of Navigation/Naval Personnel records, series NAID 594258 / Entry 118 family). A search of the digitized Navy logbook list and the National Archives Catalog (4 loose-match results, none for this hull) shows YMS-130's logs are NOT digitized - paper holdings at NARA.

- Finding
- Two shipbuilding databases corroborate this hull's builder and delivery: shipbuildinghistory table row 'YMS 130 | Tacoma Boat | Tacoma WA | 136 | 320 | 27-Aug-42 | Struck 1946'; Naval Marine Archive Tacoma Boat yard list 'YMS 130, US Navy, Minesweeper, 278 GT, 136 ft, 27-Aug-42, Struck 1946.' Class context from the same sources: 561 wooden-hulled minesweepers built by 35 boatyards spring 1942 - spring 1945, all of essentially the same 136-ft design; Mk. I boats (YMS 1-134) had two stacks. Naval Marine Archive yard history: Tacoma Boatbuilding Company established 1926, built many boats in WWII, Chapter 11 in 1985, closed 1992, facility at 1840 Marine View Drive liquidated 1998.

- Finding
- Era inference for this hull's plausible asbestos-bearing materials. The YMS-1 class was wood-hulled, 136 feet, diesel-powered (no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply). For a small wooden minesweeper of 1941-42 construction, era-standard applications plausibly present were: engine and exhaust lagging in the machinery space; gaskets and valve packing on machinery, fuel, and piping systems; electrical insulation; and adhesives/compounds in joinery and deck fittings. Built at a small yacht/boat yard (Tacoma Boatbuilding), inside the WWII-era window when asbestos was a standard marine insulating material.

- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, or work package located for YMS-130. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials. Wooden hull and diesel plant materially narrow the plausible scope vs. steel steam vessels; some asbestos product classes typical of larger ships may be absent entirely. No quantity, no manufacturer attribution.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, material list, hazmat disclosure, or qualifying case naming USS YMS-130 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener (authenticated, quota-paced): the exact-name opinion query returned 3 hits - all Texas criminal/habeas opinions, token-level collisions, none vessel-related; the exact-name docket query returned 1,440 tokenized results whose top-20 are all unrelated civil/criminal dockets (no vessel-relevant hit on the visible page). The two hull-number base queries ('YMS-130' opinion and docket) and the asbestos-qualified docket variant could not be completed this session - the fleet-wide request budget was momentarily spent on every attempt across ~1 hour of spaced retries; logged as blocked/paced in search_ledger, NOT as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no 'asbestos aboard' content for this hull at all - not even the law-firm listicle coverage most WWII hulls attract.

- Limitations
- Partial negative, not complete: two of four required base queries completed (both returned collisions/tokenization noise only); the hull-number base queries and asbestos variant remain open gaps (paced, not run). Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the un-run queries mean the litigation index is not fully exhausted. Deck logs (RG 24, undigitized) and any WSA disposal file are the open primary leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
