- Tacoma Boat Building construction trades (1941-42); crew (1942-46)
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its milestones generally track official sources but are not themselves authoritative. It says 'Completed,' not 'Commissioned'; uboat.net's 'commissioned' wording is a secondary characterization. 'Fate unknown' means the post-WSA disposition is undocumented, not that no disposition record exists anywhere. Contains no asbestos content.

- Secondary compilation (Guomundur Helgason's Allied Warships database) consistent with NavSource on every shared field. 'Ordered 1 April 1941' is the only sourced order date located - single secondary source, not verified against a contract document. 'Commissioned' is the compiler's label; NavSource uses 'Completed.' [4]NARA Catalog file unit 'YMS-132, 11/10/42-4/8/46' (NAID 193043739), 210 digitized images, provided by Ancestry - actual deck logs and monthly Reports of Changes; pages sampled directly this session [other_primary]

- Finding
- The ship's complete deck-log run is digitized and publicly readable: file unit 'YMS-132, 11/10/42-4/8/46' (NAID 193043739), 210 images on microfilm reel 794 (leader card dated 3-3-47). Sampled pages document: Report of Changes for month ending 30 June 1944 - one crewman received aboard 28 June 1944 at 'NOB, Dutch Harbor, Alaska,' copies to ADCOMALSEAFRON, FPO San Francisco; Report of Changes for month ending 31 August 1944 - personnel received from and transferred to 'R/S PSNY, Bremerton, Washington' (Receiving Station, Puget Sound Navy Yard) and one man to U.S. Naval Hospital, Seattle. These are the ship's own contemporaneous records.

- YMS-132 crew (1942-46); receiving/hospital personnel at PSNY Bremerton and USNH Seattle
- Limitations
- Archival lead and physical-presence documentation: the log places the ship at Dutch Harbor in June 1944 and its personnel pipeline through Bremerton/Seattle in mid-1944, under Alaskan Sea Frontier administration. A log is not an exposure record - it contains no asbestos or material content. The full 210-image run was not transcribed; intermediate ports and events between sampled months are undocumented here. File-unit coverage (to 8 Apr 1946) extends past SL44's listed span (to 30 Jun 1945).

- Population
- YMS-132 crew (Dec 1942 shakedown)
- Limitations
- War-diary month documents shakedown activity only; it is the ship's own report but contains no asbestos or material content. Sister war-diary file units exist for January 1943 (NAID 134091246) and February 1943 (NAID 134128049); no later months were located in the catalog - the war-diary series for this hull appears to end February 1943 (later operations appear only in the deck logs).

- Finding
- Special List 44 records US Navy deck logs for YMS-132: 'YMS-132 - Nov. 10, 1942-June 30, 1945' spanning 7 logbooks (book page 514, 'Ships with Symbol and Number Designations'). This is log-coverage documentation: the 10 November 1942 start date coincides with the completion/commissioning date, and the run extends past the war's end.

The digitized file unit NAID 193043739 extends coverage to 8 April 1946, beyond SL44's listed span. The archives.gov copy of SL44 was not fetchable this session (no PDF on current paths); the ACPL Genealogy Center scan of the same NARA publication was used.

- Production-table row: 'YMS-132 | Tacoma boat | Tacoma WA | 136 | 320 | 10 Nov 1942 | struck 1946' - third-source corroboration of builder and completion date. Class context from the same compilation: 561 wooden-hulled minesweepers built by 35 boatyards spring 1942 through spring 1945, all essentially one 136-foot design; the Mk I variant (YMS-1 through YMS-135 and BYMS-1-30) carried two stacks. Builder context: Tacoma Boatbuilding Company established 1926, built boats through WWII, Chapter 11 in 1985, closed 1992, Marine View Drive facility liquidated 1998.

The '320' column reads as full-load displacement vs NavSource's 270 t standard - a specs variant, not a conflict worth resolving (see gaps). - Locator
- NavSource 11/19idx.htm class preamble; shipbuildinghistory ym/ class statistics; GAO HRD-80-2 product page
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A wooden-hulled, diesel-powered auxiliary motor minesweeper completed November 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era (see ev-uss-yms132-09, GAO HRD-80-2). Era-standard applications aboard a diesel boat of this type and period were diesel-exhaust lagging, machinery gaskets, valve packing, and limited thermal and electrical insulation in a confined 136-foot hull. No steam plant: the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply, and the wooden hull carries far less lagging surface than a steel steam ship of the era.

- Tacoma Boat Building construction trades (1941-42); crew (1942-46); any disposal/shipbreaking trades post-February 1947 WSA transfer
- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, or work package located for YMS-132. Names era-standard diesel-era applications, not confirmed installed materials. No quantity. YMS-class construction details come from secondary compilations (NavSource, shipbuildinghistory), not a builder's specification sheet. The inference is weaker than for steam vessels: less insulated plant, smaller crew, shorter service.

- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-yms132-01 through sl-uss-yms132-11
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming YMS-132 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CAVEAT: CourtListener could not be queried this session - the fleet-wide request budget was paced (~58/hour shared budget momentarily spent on all attempts); logged as blocked, not as a negative result. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case and no law-firm marketing page asserting asbestos aboard this hull specifically - cleaner than typical for a WWII hull.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - and the litigation repository search is a genuine open gap (paced, not run). The digitized deck logs (210 images) were sampled, not fully transcribed; a full read could document yard availabilities, overhauls, or material events not captured here. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
