[2]National Archives and Records Administration, Special List 44, List of Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships, Stations, and Miscellaneous Units, 1801-1947, ships-by-number PDF [other_primary]
- Locator
- PDF page 115, YMS block: 'YMS-15 12/1/1943 10/1/1944'
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's Special List 44 inventories deck-log holdings for YMS-15 as 12/1/1943 through 10/1/1944. This establishes that dated Navy deck-log records for this hull were held in the NARA collection; it is a log-coverage finding, not a claim that those dates are the ship's commissioning or decommissioning dates.

- 1943-12-01 to 1944-10-01; finding aid published 1978
- Population
- YMS-15 crew and officers generating the listed deck logs
- Limitations
- The Special List is an inventory and does not expose the contents of the logs. The deck logs were not examined for asbestos, repairs, materials, crew duties, or exposure conditions. The row's end date coincides with the decommissioning date reported by NavSource, but the coincidence does not independently prove that event.

[3]NavSource Online, Mine Warfare Vessel Photo Archive, YMS-15 hull page [other_primary]
- Locator
- YMS-15 page header, history bullet list, and final note stating no DANFS history is available
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The individual YMS-15 hull page identifies this vessel as a YMS-1-class auxiliary motor minesweeper, gives the call sign Nan-Able-Tare-Item, and records: laid down 5 July 1941 by Rice Brothers Corp., Boothbay, Maine; launched 16 July 1942; completed and commissioned USS YMS-15 on 5 December 1942; decommissioned 1 October 1944 and transferred to France as Myosotis (D 338); sold to France 21 March 1949; struck from the Navy Register 28 April 1949; and sunk in the Mekong River on 20 June 1949 after striking a mine. The page states that no DANFS history is available for YMS-15.

- Rice Brothers construction workforce; U.S. Navy crew 1942-1944; French Navy crew 1944-1949
- Limitations
- NavSource is a specialist volunteer compilation used here for hull identity and the available milestone set, not as a substitute for a located official DANFS or Naval Vessel Register history. The source contains no asbestos information. The French designation is a post-U.S.-Navy name in this compilation, not a primary-source designation alias found for the U.S. Navy record.

- Limitations
- These are specifications transcribed by NavSource and do not establish the presence or absence of asbestos-containing components. The diesel specification does not by itself prove any particular insulation, gasket, packing, or electrical material aboard this hull.

[5]GAO, Navy Efforts To Protect Workers From Asbestos Exposure, HRD-80-2 (1979) [gao]
- Locator
- GAO product page HRD-80-2; full text not retrieved
- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO's Navy asbestos-program review is relevant only as broad era context for a vessel constructed and operated during the World War II Navy period; it addresses Navy asbestos exposure-control efforts at program level rather than naming YMS-15 or documenting materials aboard this hull.

- Navy asbestos program and shipyard workforce at program level
- Limitations
- No ship-specific inference is made from this program-level source. The GAO page was live but returned HTTP 403 to the direct automated fetch; the report was not used to identify a product, quantity, location, or exposure aboard YMS-15.

[6]Batch-8825 source sweep: NARA Special List 44, NavSource YMS-15 hull page, NHHC/DANFS candidate search, official-source web search, and CourtListener helper status [other_primary]
- Locator
- See search_ledger rows sl-uss-yms-15-yms15-01 through -08
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, product identification, materials specification, or primary-source designation alias for USS YMS-15 was located in the sources examined. Ship-specific asbestos documentation is therefore unknown, not negative. The CourtListener litigation sweep was initiated through the authenticated helper but was not completed because fleet-wide pacing prevented the queued requests from returning during this session; no litigation conclusion is drawn.

- 2026-10-04 research session
- Limitations
- A failure to locate a public record does not prove that asbestos was absent or that no litigation exists. The NARA deck-log inventory remains an unexamined archival lead. CourtListener's four required base queries were issued/queued through the helper, but returned results were unavailable at cutoff; no asbestos-qualified variants were run because the base-query overflow condition was not established.
