- Finding
- NavSource's live YMS-200 page identifies this hull as a YMS-1 class auxiliary motor minesweeper. It states that Hiltebrant Dock Co., Kingston, NY laid her down 19 August 1942; launched her 26 October 1942; completed her 5 July 1943; records participation in the invasion of Southern France in August 1944; records striking from the Naval Register on 19 June 1946; records transfer to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in April 1947; and gives fate unknown. The page lists a 270-ton displacement, 136-foot length, 24-foot 6-inch beam, 8-foot draft, 15-knot speed, complement 32, and two 880-bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines with Snow and Knobstedt single-reduction gear on two shafts.

- Hiltebrant Dock construction trades; YMS-200 crew; post-Navy custodians
- Limitations
- NavSource is a live secondary photo-archive compilation, not a primary construction, personnel, or registry record. It contains no asbestos statement. Its completion date is not treated as a commissioning date, and its reported participation/disposition milestones were not independently corroborated by a DANFS entry; the page states that no DANFS history is currently available for YMS-200.

- Limitations
- This is a custody and coverage index, not the deck logs themselves. It does not establish commissioning or decommissioning dates and does not identify asbestos, products, exposure, repair work, or causation. The individual logs were not examined for this record.

[4]National Archives, Researching Asbestos aboard US Naval Vessel up through 1961 (live page verified HTTP 200, 2026-10-04). [other_primary]

- Finding
- The National Archives asbestos research guide states that use of asbestos in U.S. Navy materiel from 1941-1961 is a complex research topic and directs researchers to ship-specific and class/type records in Record Group 19, Records of the Bureau of Ships. It explains that ships and classes are filed by designation/hull designation and that private-shipyard correspondence is filed under QM codes.

- Population
- Navy ships, shipyard workers, and researchers using RG 19 records
- Limitations
- This is a research pathway, not a YMS-200 material record. The guide does not establish or negate asbestos aboard this hull, and the referenced RG 19 hull, class, type, and shipyard records were not retrieved for this record.

[5]NavSource YMS-200 specifications plus NARA asbestos research guide; application list is an era/class research context, not a hull finding. [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource propulsion block; NARA guide RG 19 research sections
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Class/era context only: YMS-200 was completed in 1943 as a diesel auxiliary motor minesweeper. Its diesel machinery and construction era identify the relevant NARA archival research path, but no cited source identifies any asbestos material as installed aboard YMS-200. No boiler or steam plant is documented in the retained hull source, so no boiler/turbine-lagging finding is made.

[6]Bounded batch research review of live NavSource YMS-200, NARA Special List 44, NARA asbestos guide, and DANFS availability status (2026-10-04). [other_primary]

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No matching hull-specific asbestos record or documented designation alias was located in the primary sources reviewed for this record. No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material specification, or asbestos product identification naming YMS-200 was found. The retained primary identity is YMS-200; no named or postwar designation alias is documented in the sources reviewed.

- Research performed 2026-10-04
- Limitations
- A bounded failure to locate a public record is not proof that asbestos was absent. NARA identifies undigitized RG 19 records as the appropriate path for hull-level material research. The litigation sweep was incomplete because shared authenticated pacing blocked the first CourtListener request.

[7]CourtListener authenticated-search helper diagnostic, batch 8856 (2026-10-04). [court_record]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-yms-200-yms200-05 through -08; helper began authenticated request and remained at fleet pacing gate
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The required authenticated CourtListener sweep was not completed. The exact-name opinion query for USS YMS-200 was initiated through the mandated helper but did not clear the fleet pacing gate within the session; the exact-name docket and YMS-200 opinion/docket queries were not run. No asbestos-qualified variants were run. This is an access gap, not a negative litigation finding.
