[2]NavSource Online: Mine Warfare Vessel Photo Archive, YMS-247 (live individual hull history) [other_primary]
- Locator
- YMS-247 milestone list and Norwegian-service heading
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The live individual hull history identifies the vessel as YMS-1-class auxiliary motor minesweeper, laid down 27 May 1942 by Weaver Shipyard at Orange, Texas; launched 14 October 1942; completed and commissioned USS YMS-247 on 13 May 1943; and transferred to Norway and reclassified NYMS-247 on 18 May 1945. It later names the Norwegian vessel Vinstra (M317).

- Population
- Builder workforce (1942-43); U.S. Navy crew (1943-45); Royal Norwegian Navy crew after 18 May 1945
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer historical compilation rather than a U.S. primary registry, but its individual-hull history was live-verified and is consistent with NARA's U.S. Navy deck-log index (ev-02). It documents no British transfer, BYMS designation, or British service. It contains no asbestos documentation and does not itself establish the formal decommissioning paperwork, material content, exposure, or causation.

- NARA Special List 44 indexes surviving U.S. Navy deck-log coverage for YMS-247 from 13 May 1943 through 18 May 1945.

- Population
- U.S. Navy crew during indexed log period
- Limitations
- These are log-coverage dates, not independently established commissioning or decommissioning dates. The finding aid indexes records; the logs were not examined and establish neither asbestos content nor individual exposure.

- MS 415, Series 3, Box 22, Folder 45, 'U.S.S. YMS-247 (Minesweeper), July 1944'
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The official Naval Academy finding aid lists an individual U.S.S. YMS-247 minesweeper action report dated July 1944, described as 'Action during the invasion of France,' in Box 22, Folder 45.

- Population
- U.S. Navy crew during July 1944 action
- Limitations
- This is an archival description, not the underlying action report. It supports a Normandy/invasion-of-France research lead but does not establish the contents of the report, battle-star credit, asbestos content, exposure, or causation.

[5]GAO, Navy Efforts To Protect Workers From Asbestos Exposure, HRD-80-2 (18 Oct. 1979) [gao]
- Locator
- GAO product page HRD-80-2 description (direct HTTP 403; live-web fallback verified description)
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- GAO documented the Navy's asbestos-protection program and Navy shipboard asbestos-insulation context. That program-level record places a 1942-43 Navy-built vessel in the documented asbestos-use era.

- Study period
- 1979 report; WWII-era context only
- Population
- Navy shipyard workers and Navy asbestos-protection program
- Limitations
- Program-level, postwar documentation; it does not name YMS-247, its builder, its machinery, or any material aboard this hull. Direct GAO retrieval returned HTTP 403, while a live-web fallback supplied the product-page description; this is an access limitation, not missing research. It cannot establish asbestos presence, product identity, quantity, condition, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.

- Locator
- search_ledger entries sl-uss-yms-247-yms247-01 through -08
- Finding type
- environmental_record
- Finding
- No public ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, material list, hazmat disclosure, or other direct asbestos documentation was located for USS YMS-247 in the sources searched. The four mandatory authenticated CourtListener base searches were submitted but did not return before the environment timed out, so litigation is an access gap rather than a negative litigation result.

- Limitations
- Absence of located public documentation does not prove absence of asbestos aboard. CourtListener has not been classified because no query response was received; no litigation conclusion is made. NARA deck logs and the Naval Academy action report remain unexamined archival leads and do not establish material content.
