    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer-compiled archive, not an official record - used here as the principal consolidated source because no DANFS entry exists for this unnamed craft; every load-bearing fact is corroborated by official records where available (NHHC roster, NHHC photo catalog, NARA SL44, uboat.net). Documents construction, specifications, and disposal - no materials or asbestos content.

    Finding
Official U.S. Pacific Fleet organization table as of 1 May 1945 lists 'YMS 267' under the Mine Squadron TWENTY minecraft grouping with the Task Force 94 marker - TF 94 is the table's Forward Area, Central Pacific command (V. Adm. J. H. Hoover) - commanded by Lt. (jg) J. J. Dykstra (USNR). Confirms the hull in commission on forward-area duty in the Marianas on that date and corroborates the CO named in the NavSource crew memoir.

    Finding
NARA Special List 44 records U.S. Navy deck logs for YMS-267 covering 6/21/1943-6/30/1945 (PDF page 117) - the full span from completion through V-J Day. The logs are the authoritative source for the ship's day-to-day wartime employment; they are held at the National Archives but are not among the digitized deck logs in the National Archives Catalog (the digitized set covers named/redesignated hulls - YMS-267 was never renamed).

Crew memoir for this hull: fitting out at Mare Island and loading at Treasure Island; shakedown to San Diego; daily sweeps of the San Francisco ship channel; Monterey patrol and camera-ship duty for radio-controlled target-aircraft tests; Eureka patrol; departed San Francisco May 1944 via Pearl Harbor and Eniwetok; present off Agat, Guam, on D-Day 21 July 1944 after escorting four LSTs; months of Guam-area sweeping/escort; withdrawn from the Ulithi operation on evaporator failure (sister YMS-385 mined and sunk there); 31 December 1944 engine-room flooding off Guam from a shaft broken in the stuffing box - USS Dempsey (DE-26) alongside with pumps, then salvage tug to a floating drydock at Apra Harbor; Guam-Saipan escort (Peleliu, Iwo Jima), B-29 runway-end rescue duty at Saipan, escort of Japanese fishing boats; collision with LCI-1054 off Saipan shortly after midnight 4 April 1945 (port amidships, superstructure pushed over ~4 inches) and weeks of repairs in a dug slip; second shaft failure; returned to Pearl Harbor July 1945 on one screw and drydocked with USS Toledo (CA-133); postwar sweeping in the Kobe area of Japan; returned to San Francisco and decommissioned April 1946.

    Wartime crew (complement 32)
    Limitations
First-person recollection published by a third-party archive - partially corroborated: TF-94 assignment and CO per the NHHC 1 May 1945 roster; 1943-45 service span per NARA SL44; Guam-area presence consistent with both; and LCI(L)-1054 is independently verified operating out of Saipan in the same window (NavSource LCI page: Task Unit 94.19.17 departed Saipan 8 May 1945 for the Northern Marianas). The specific episodes (D-Day position, the 31 Dec 1944 flooding, the 4 Apr 1945 collision, the shaft failures, Japan sweeping) still rest on this memoir alone. Deck logs (ev-04) are the verification path. No asbestos or materials content.

Class-level record: the YMS-1 type was a wooden-hulled auxiliary motor minesweeper designed by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. - 481 ships of the type with the same general characteristics, built at 35 yacht yards (19 on the West Coast) rather than major shipyards; originally rated as service craft for inshore sweeping ahead of amphibious assaults; YMS-135 through -445 (this hull's block) were the single-stack variant; surviving YMS were reclassified AMS and named in 1947 - this hull was not among them. The minecraft table lists YMS-267 with a 1942-5 service span.

    asbestos_application
    Finding
A wooden-hulled motor minesweeper built 1942-43 with twin GM diesel propulsion carries no steam plant - the boiler/steam-line insulation pathway that dominates WWII-era naval asbestos exposure does not apply to this hull. Era-standard asbestos applications on a diesel naval craft of this period were the residual products: diesel-exhaust lagging, gaskets, valve and machinery packing, and electrical insulation; small-craft construction at a yacht yard further narrows the scope versus major-yard steel vessels. Asbestos aboard this hull is a bounded era-consistent inference, materially smaller in likely scope than on contemporary steam vessels but not zero.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming YMS-267 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). A general web sweep for 'YMS-267 asbestos/mesothelioma/litigation' surfaced no qualifying case or document. No ship-specific asbestos content exists in the located official record (NHHC, NARA) or the archive record (NavSource).

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - it proves the public record is thin for this small craft. CAVEAT: the CourtListener docket sweep is partially open - 3 of 4 base queries completed with zero hits, but the bare-hull-number docket query ("YMS-267" type=r) was blocked by the fleet pacer all session and remains a genuine gap (see sl-08). The undigitized deck logs (ev-04) and NARA RG19 General Information Books are the other open verification paths. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
