The Fess Parker service note is corroborated by published profiles of Parker (crewing 'a wooden mine-sweeper, YMS-334' on Philippine cleanup, Sept 1945-Mar 1946) but not confirmed against Navy muster rolls. Contains no asbestos content. The Thai name assignment conflicts with navypedia - see ev-09.

- Finding
- NARA Special List 44 inventories U.S. Navy deck logs for YMS-334 covering 3/1/1943 - 3/31/1946 (row 'YMS-334 3/1/1943 3/31/1946' verified on PDF page 119 of the published SL44 ship-numbers file, 137 pp.). The inventory establishes that deck logs for this hull exist in NARA custody for the entire documented U.S. service period - from completion/commissioning (1 March 1943) through the postwar Philippine sweeping period to three months before her June 1946 striking.

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The official Seventh Amphibious Force command history names this hull in the Borneo minesweeping narrative: 'Twelve YMSs began sweeping operations at TARAKAN on 28 April, in preparation for the assault landings on 1 May 1945. Both magnetic and moored sweeping was conducted in the approach to the harbor and for fire support areas outside the harbor... 89 mines cut. A mine damaged the YMS 329, while YMS 481 was sunk, and YMS 334 and YMS 364 were damaged by fire from enemy shore batteries.' The same history documents that 'the wooden hulled YMSs were selected to do the magnetic minesweeping' (confirming the type's wood construction) and that approximately 25 YMS's conducted the February-July 1945 Philippines/Borneo clearance under Seventh Amphibious Force control.

- Limitations
- Official USN command history (primary-level operational record), naming this hull once; it establishes the Tarakan minesweeping assignment and shore-battery damage but not repair details, casualty count, or material effects. Contains no asbestos content. Loehr, Jr., USNR) escorted convoy BG-102 Langemak Bay to Humboldt Bay with HMAS Ararat, Bendigo, Glenelg, and Geelong (departed 1700K/20, arrived ~0800K/23). Tarakan (Operation Oboe I) - YMS-334 (Lt.(jg) P. G. Rafferty, USNR) was one of eleven YMS's in minesweeping unit TG 78.1.5 built around USS Cofer (APD); at 1530I/2 May camouflaged batteries at Cape Djoeata (northwest Tarakan) sank YMS-481 and damaged YMS-334 and YMS-364; Cofer with LCS(L)-8 and -28 silenced the battery while LCS(L)-44, LCI(L)-1008, and LCVP's rescued survivors under direct fire; wounded were put aboard USS Rocky Mount and USS Fletcher. On 5 May YMS-334 is listed in the escort of echelon CTG 78.1.93 departing Tarakan for Morotai.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- YMS-334 was a wooden-hulled, all-diesel auxiliary minesweeper built in 1942-43 - inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard diesel-craft applications aboard a vessel of this type and period were engine exhaust lagging, engine-room thermal insulation, machinery gaskets, valve packing, electrical insulation, and possible fireproofing around galley and exhaust runs. There is no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of larger combatants does not apply, and the wood hull eliminates structural insulation requirements of steel construction; the residual exposure surface is the machinery space and small-craft fittings.

- CORRECTION/UNRESOLVED: compilations cross-swap the Thai names of YMS-334 and YMS-138. NavSource and ThaiSeafarer attach this hull's build fingerprint (Seattle Shipbuilding, laid 9 Jun 1942, launched 24 Oct 1942) to HTMS Bangkeo; navypedia and Shipbucket assign the same fingerprint to HTMS Ladya (with Bangkeo as ex-YMS-138). All sources agree on sale to Thailand in 1947 and striking in 1964. The correct Thai name is unresolved - both names are carried in aliases pending a Royal Thai Navy primary source.

- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era-standard machinery applications are consistent with small quantities of asbestos aboard a wooden diesel minesweeper. Does not establish that asbestos is or is not present; does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility. CourtListener four base queries all returned count 0 (sl-07/-08/-09/-10) - no litigation of any kind naming this hull in that repository.
