    Finding
NARA Special List 44 inventories deck logs held for YMS-35 in ONE coverage block: 7/14/1942 - 6/30/1945 (p. 119). The window opens the day after her 13 July 1942 completion/commissioning and closes mid-1945 while she was still in commission - the 6/30/1945 endpoint is a systematic cutoff shared by most YMS entries on the same page (verified: YMS-331, -332, -335, -340, -342, -343, -345, -349, -351 through -357, -359, -360, -362, -366 through -369 all end 6/30/1945), indicating the wartime log accession rather than a service endpoint. These are log-coverage dates, not asserted commissioning/decommissioning dates. YMS-35 does not appear on NARA's list of digitized deck logs in the National Archives Catalog (the digitized YMS entries are other hulls); the logs are an undigitized primary record held in RG 24 at College Park.

    Limitations
Inventory listing only - establishes that deck logs exist and their date coverage, not their content. Log coverage is not proof of commissioning/decommissioning dates. Postwar logs (7/1945 through her 1947 disposal) are not inventoried in this accession - whether they survive separately cannot be told from the inventory alone. The deck logs themselves are undigitized; no page-level content reviewed this session.

    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates generally track NVR-style data. The 'two 880bhp' engine phrasing reads as a per-engine rating but conflicts with class-level data (880 shp total designed; 440 bhp per engine - see gaps). 'Fate unknown' covers only post-Peruvian disposition. Contains no asbestos or material content.

    Limitations
uboat.net is a specialist secondary database compiled from official records - the milestone data is consistent with NavSource and the yard tables, but the absence of events/commands reflects the site's coverage gaps for small craft, not a documented quiet career. Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
The builder's production table lists YMS-35 as a US Navy minesweeper of 278 tons, delivered 13-Jul-42, disposition 'Struck 1946'. The same table places her in a six-boat Hiltebrant YMS contract block: YMS-32 (delivered 14-May-42, struck 1946), YMS-33 (10-Jun-42, to the USSR 1945 as T-603), YMS-34 (27-Jun-42, to France 1944 as Anemone D 311), YMS-35 (13-Jul-42), YMS-36 (31-Jul-42, to France as Campanule D 321), YMS-37 (21-Aug-42, to France as Balsamine D 316). Yard history per Colton: Hiltebrant Dry Dock Company was in operation in WWI (building SC-1-class subchasers and Navy yard tugs) and was still building minesweepers in the 1950s (MSO-430/431 and MSC hulls for Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Norway); the yard sat on the south side of the creek in Kingston between Spring Street and Plantasie Avenue, where the Rondout Yacht Basin is today.

Independent secondary yard register compiled from yard and government records. The 'Struck 1946' disposition conflicts with NavSource/uboat.net's precise 17 July 1947 striking - the 1946 figure likely reflects fiscal-year or contract bookkeeping, unverified (see gaps). Finding
A Peruvian Navy official historical publication states that B.A.P. Bondy (ex-YMS-25, built Greenport Basin) was purchased from the U.S. Navy on 17 January 1947 and delivered at the Norfolk Naval Base in 1947, and that 'Fue entregado conjuntamente con el ex-YMS-35 (B.A.P. "San Martín")' - delivered together with ex-YMS-35, which became B.A.P. San Martín, named for Guardiamarina Emilio San Martín, a young officer killed with Teniente José Gálvez Moreno in the 24 May 1880 night action against the Chilean torpedo boats Janaqueo and Guacolda during the War of the Pacific. The volume describes this class of unit as 'casi en su totalidad de madera' - almost entirely of wood.

    Limitations
Official navy historical-commemorative publication, not a transfer registry - corroborates the Peruvian acquisition and namesake but its '17 de Enero de 1947' purchase date predates the U.S. Naval Register striking (17 July 1947) and the FLC transfer (August 1947); likely contract-vs-delivery timing, unresolved (see gaps). The 'almost entirely wood' description covers the Bondy/San Martín units generally. No asbestos or material content.

    Finding
Class context for this hull: 'The wood-hulled YMS proved to be one of the U.S. Navy's more durable and versatile types' - 561 yard minesweepers were built at 35 U.S. yacht yards (12 East Coast, 19 West Coast, 4 Great Lakes) beginning with YMS-1, laid down 4 March 1941 at Henry B. Nevins, Inc., City Island, NY. YMS-1 through -134 (which includes this hull) carried TWO stacks; YMS-135 through -445, -480, -481 carried one; YMS-446 through -479 none. 'Records show that YMS' were used in the United States Navy to sweep mines laid by enemy subs as early as 1942 off the ports of Jacksonville, FL and Charleston, SC' - the East-Coast defensive-sweep context this early hull's service window matches (her only located wartime datum is Yorktown, VA, September 1944). Surviving YMS were reclassified AMS and bird-named beginning 18 February 1947; this hull was struck 17 July 1947 and sold abroad, never receiving an AMS designation.

    Finding
A wood-hulled, diesel-driven minesweeper completed in July 1942 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard applications on a small wooden diesel combatant of this type and period were diesel-exhaust and muffler lagging, engine-room thermal/acoustic insulation, machinery gaskets and valve packing, and electrical insulation. As a diesel craft she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply - and her wood hull and small machinery spaces imply a substantially smaller insulation footprint than a steam combatant. Her Peruvian service decades (1947-c.1974) add an undocumented second service career under a foreign flag with no located materials record.

The small craft's reduced systems footprint makes the inference weaker than for steam-powered hulls of the same era.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, VA/BVA decision, or docketed case naming YMS-35 or BAP San Martín was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The only 'asbestos aboard' material for YMS-class hulls is law-firm marketing listicle content asserting asbestos without primary sourcing (asbestos.com, mesotheliomahope.com, mesothelioma.com, mesotheliomavets.com, elslaw.com) - excluded by source policy.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - it is consistent with both genuinely light insulation fit and simple non-digitization of small-craft records (this hull's own deck logs are undigitized). CourtListener coverage incomplete this session (fleet pacing stand-down - see ledger and gaps); undigitized deck logs (RG 24), FLC disposal file, and Peruvian naval archives remain open leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
