- Finding
- Special List 44 inventories US Navy deck logs for YMS-416 covering 10/23/1944 through 12/31/1945 (2 logbooks) - a span matching the ship's entire wartime commissioned period (commissioned 10/23/1944, decommissioned 12/1/1946 per NavSource). No 1946 logs are listed for YMS-416 in SL44.

- Population
- YMS-416 crew, 1944-1945 (log coverage period)
- Limitations
- This is an inventory entry, not the logs themselves: it establishes that logbooks exist (RG 24-era custody, NARA) but not their contents - stations, operations, or any aboard conditions are unread here. YMS-416 does not appear on NARA's digitized deck-log index (archives.gov navy-online page searched 2026-10-04), so the logs are an undigitized archival lead only. The numbered-vessel SL44 section is not on the archives.gov HTML list (that page covers named vessels); entry verified on printed SL44 p. 522 via the ACPL Genealogy Center scan (images/narasl44/554.jpg) and on p. 121 of the typeset PDF reproduction.

- YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper: laid down 9 January 1944 by the Stadium Yacht Basin, Inc., Cleveland, OH; launched 28 May 1944; completed 21 October 1944; commissioned USS YMS-416, 23 October 1944 under LTJG George T. Lyons, USNR; decommissioned 1 December 1946; struck from the Navy Register 7 February 1947; transferred to the War Shipping Administration 6 December 1947; registered 1949 to Harold Healy of Seattle, WA as the miscellaneous-use barge Healys No. 1; registered 1955 to Executive Factors, Ltd. of Seattle as the freight barge Healys No. 1; out of documentation in 1989; fate unknown. Page carries NARA photos 19-N-67891 and 19-N-67892 of the ship fitting out at Stadium Yacht Basin, 10 July 1944. Page states: 'There is no DANFS History currently available for YMS-416.'

- Population
- YMS-416 crew (wartime); merchant-era operators
- Limitations
- NavSource is a compiled secondary archive of official data, not the underlying registers; the WSA transfer line vs. 'sold' in the yard table is a minor discrepancy (see gaps). Contains no asbestos information. WWII operational stations are not listed - service detail is undocumented in located sources.

[3]NavSource Online, Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper (YMS) index page - class description [other_primary]
- Locator
- YMS index class-description paragraphs
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The YMS type was a wood-hulled, diesel-powered inshore minesweeper designed by Henry B. Nevins, Inc.; 561 were built at 35 yacht yards (not major shipyards) - 12 East Coast, 19 West Coast, 4 Great Lakes. YMS-135 through YMS-445 (plus 480-481) were the single-stack variant, which includes YMS-416. Surviving YMSs still in naval service were reclassified AMS and named in 1947 - YMS-416, decommissioned December 1946, was not among them and received no AMS designation or name.

- YMS-class crews and builders, 1941-1969 (class context)
- Limitations
- Class-level design context only: establishes wood hull and diesel propulsion (no boilers, no steam piping - the dominant asbestos-lagging pathway of steam ships is absent by design), but documents no asbestos or insulation material content for the class or this hull. Does not establish presence or absence of residual asbestos components (gaskets, wiring, brake linings).

[4]shipbuildinghistory.com (Tim Colton), Stadium Boat Works / Stadium Yacht Basin yard table, Cleveland OH [other_primary]

- Stadium yard table, YMS 416 row

- historical_record
- Finding
- The builder's hull table lists YMS 416 under U.S. official number 256693, type 'Minesweeper,' 278 tons, delivered 21-Oct-44, disposition 'Sold 1946 as Healys No. 1' - confirming the merchant-documentation number and the post-Navy name. The yard (Stadium Boat Works, founded as Stadium Yacht Basin c. 1935, closed 1957, at the foot of West 3rd Street, Cleveland) built YMS 76-83, YMS 235-240, YMS 389-392, YMS 414-417, YMS 460-461 and other small naval craft.

- Limitations
- Compiler's table, not the underlying registry; its 'Sold 1946' conflicts with NavSource's 'transferred to the War Shipping Administration 6 December 1947' (NavSource's merchant-registration chain is the more detailed record - see gaps). Contains no asbestos information; establishes builder, official number, and post-Navy identity only.

- JaWS Marine YMS-416 post and category page (jawsmarine.com/category/lake-washington/yms/)
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The least intact of three YMS hulls located on the bottom of Lake Washington (about 200 ft of water off Sand Point/Magnuson Park, Seattle) was identified by the dive teams as ex-YMS-416 - 'stripped and scuttled' per the team's account, described elsewhere in dive-community reporting as a burned-out hulk; the identification was reported in 2008 after consultation with maritime historians (per the dive-community report, historian Dr. William Lafferty confirmed the hulk as the former Healys No. 1, ex-YMS-416).

- 2007-2008 (identification); wreck dates unknown
- Limitations
- Recreational-diver identification, not an official wreck survey: no government (NOAA, Washington DNR, USCG) record of the identification was located, and NavSource still lists the ship's fate as 'unknown.' The Wikipedia 'research vessel' characterization is not supported by the merchant registrations (miscellaneous-use barge, then freight barge). No asbestos, hazmat, or pollution assessment of the wreck was located.

- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-yms-416-01 through sl-uss-yms-416-12
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no DANFS entry exists (NavSource states none), no NVR detail page exists (vessel stricken 1947, outside NVR coverage; SHIPDETAILS URL bounces to SSO), no asbestos survey/abatement/hazmat record exists for the hull or wreck, and no qualifying asbestos litigation naming YMS-416 was found in CourtListener opinion or docket search (see search_ledger).

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - WWII-era diesel auxiliaries still carried asbestos in some components (gaskets, electrical insulation, brake linings); it establishes only that nothing ship-specific is published. The wreck has never had an official survey, so present-day material content is unassessed.
