    Finding
DANFS identifies this hull as LST-677, laid down 25 April 1944 at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, launched 16 June 1944, and commissioned at New Orleans on 3 July 1944. It reached Pearl Harbor on 19 September 1944, entered conversion at Waipio Point on 19 October, completed conversion by 21 January 1945, was reclassified APB-43 and named Yolo effective 31 March 1945, served at Okinawa from 1 April to 28 June 1945, performed Far East occupation duty, was decommissioned 9 August 1946, struck from the Navy list 1 May 1959, and sold for scrapping in February 1960. DANFS credits one World War II battle star.

    Population
American Bridge construction trades; Navy crew and embarked Seabee/boat-pool personnel; Okinawa and occupation-service personnel
    Limitations
This is a service-history record, not a materials or asbestos survey. The official page was discoverable in the live NHHC DANFS index/search, but direct automated retrieval returned 404; the same DANFS text is reproduced on the live NavSource page cited in ev-uss-yolo-lst677-02. It does not establish asbestos presence, absence, quantity, exposure, or causation.

    historical_record
    Finding
The live hull page identifies Yolo as ex LST(M)-677 and LST-677; records the LST-542/Benewah designation, Okinawa campaign, postwar occupation duty, decommissioning, striking, and sale for scrapping. Its APB specification block gives 328 feet length, 50 feet beam, 11 feet 2 inches draft, complement of 10 officers and 141 enlisted, troop capacity of 40 officers and 300 enlisted, and two General Motors 12-567A diesel engines with Falk reduction gears, five 100-kW ship-service generators, and two propellers.

    Population
Wartime crew, embarked troops and boat-pool personnel, and shipyard/conversion workers
    Limitations
NavSource is a naval-history archive and the page attributes its history to DANFS; it is used here to verify the live page and provide the accessible transcription. It documents identity, specifications, and service only; it contains no asbestos survey, abatement record, or material schedule for this hull.

    Finding type
    gov_survey
    Finding
GAO's Navy asbestos-program review provides era context for a 1944-built Navy vessel: systematic Navy asbestos-substitution and worker-protection efforts described in the report postdate Yolo's construction and wartime service. This supports research priority for original-era insulation, gaskets, packing, electrical materials, deck coverings, and friction materials, but does not identify any product aboard Yolo.

    Population
Navy shipyard workers and Navy personnel covered by the asbestos program
    Limitations
Program-level and era-level evidence only, not hull-specific. The GAO full text was not retrieved during this run; the official product-page record was used. It does not establish presence, absence, quantity, or condition of asbestos aboard Yolo.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located for USS Yolo/LST-677: no hull asbestos survey, abatement contract, Navy material schedule, museum/hazmat disclosure, or qualifying litigation record was found in the sources searched. The accessible DANFS/NavSource history contains no asbestos statement.

    Limitations
A failure to locate a public record does not prove that asbestos was absent aboard this 1944 Navy hull. CourtListener litigation searching was halted after the authenticated helper reported a fleet pacing stand-down; exact-name and hull-number searches therefore remain incomplete. Firecrawl was also unavailable because its keyless service reported an approximately 18-hour quota wait. This negative finding does not establish asbestos presence or absence, individual exposure, causation, or legal eligibility.
