Of 20 consumer talcum and powder products analysed, 10 contained detectable amounts of tremolite and anthophyllite, principally asbestiform, ranging from tenths of a percent to over 14% by weight; two contained detectable chrysotile asbestos fibre.

Claim scope

The contemporaneous peer-reviewed measurement, quantified, with a per-weight range. Metadata verified per-record: J Toxicol Environ Health, 1976, DOI 10.1080/15287397609529432, authors Rohl, Langer, Selikoff, Tordini, Klimentidis, Bowes, Skinner. The abstract also states products were formulated prior to 1973 and that products “were rarely the pure mineral talc”, some consisting of three to five minerals with only one being talc. This is the single most valuable citation on this track: it is the peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed measurement the industry documents were reacting to, and it needs no litigation intermediary.

What this source does not establish

A 1976 product survey, not a health-outcome study — no SMR, RR or OR, so it is NOT Tier 1 under house definitions. Products are not named in the abstract. The abstract itself distinguishes asbestiform from “fragmented forms”, which is the cleavage-fragment issue in the original authors' own words — do not elide it. Limitations

Cite as fiber_measurement. Tier 2 rather than 1 (no quantitative risk measure). Selikoff and Langer are the Mt. Sinai researchers the industry documents name, so the paper is simultaneously a measurement source and an actor in the knowledge narrative — disclose that when using it.
