The record
A second pre-1992 case-control study, published in Obstetrics & Gynecology in July 1992, reported an odds ratio of 1.5 (95% CI 1.0-2.1) for any perineal talc exposure and 2.8 (95% CI 1.4-5.4) for the most heavily exposed subgroup.
Claim scope
Published ovarian-cancer risk estimates with confidence intervals in the peer-reviewed literature in the same month as the memo (Obstet Gynecol 1992;80:19-26). Strengthens the chronology considerably over the 1982 study alone.
What this source does not establish
Again, white women only (235 white cases, 239 controls). Its own authors concluded perineal talc use 'is unlikely to be the etiology for the majority of epithelial ovarian cancers.'
Limitations
DATE DISCIPLINE: this issue is dated July 1992 and the memo is hand-dated 8/5/92. The page must NOT assert that anyone at J&J had read it. It establishes only the published state of the literature at that moment. Cite it for the state of knowledge, never for corporate knowledge.
