Talc Evidence Atlas — release-gated evidence record. Status: verified · Track: knowledge · Modified 2026-08-13

The record

J&J sourced cosmetic talc for Johnson's Baby Powder from the Val Chisone and Val Germanasca region of Piedmont, Italy (1951-1967), the Windsor region of Vermont (1968-2003), and Guangxi Province, China (2003-2014).

Claim scope

The sourcing chronology, from a published opinion with a VERIFIED reporter citation (cross-cited as 70 Cal.App.5th 796 in Bader). This is the spine any dated finding must be pinned to — a 1972 Italian-talc positive and a 1998 Vermont-talc positive are statements about different ore bodies.

What this source does not establish

The dates are as recited in this opinion's summary of the exposure period 1951-2014. Lanzo gives a partly different sourcing chronology (see next record) — the two published opinions do not agree exactly.

Limitations

Strobel's window starts at 1951 because that is the plaintiff's birth year, not because Italian sourcing began then. Lanzo states Italian sourcing ran from 1946. Use Lanzo for the start date and Strobel for the 1968/2003 transitions, and say the sources differ.
