50 samples, zero positives. Independently confirmed against the published data table: 50 distinct FDA Sample IDs, all 50 rows reading 'negative' for both PLM and TEM.
What this source does not establish
Does NOT establish that the US talc-cosmetics market was asbestos-free in 2021. 50 samples is a small non-random draw from a very large market, and the detection limit question (below) governs what 'not detected' means.
Limitations
The table is titled 'During FY 20 - FY 21' and the sample-ID prefixes show it merges the COVID-delayed FY2020 draw (02282020-*, 12 samples) with the 2021 draw (38 samples). FDA states: 'due to COVID-19, the sampling assignment planned for 2020 was carried out during 2021.' There is therefore NO separate 2020 result set — do not report 2020 and 2021 as two independent 50-sample surveys.
